2026 Ford Bronco vs 2026 Jeep Wrangler

A black 2026 Ford Bronco vs a black 2026 Jeep Wrangler
If you are looking for a stylish and capable off-road SUV, the Ford Bronco is an excellent choice and one of our favorite vehicles on the market. Even when you compare it to its strongest competition, like looking at the 2026 Ford Bronco vs 2026 Jeep Wrangler, it is clear that the Bronco is in a league all its own. This was even truer in the past with previous Wrangler models, but Jeep has worked hard to try to catch up with the 2026 Wrangler that continues to showcase updated features from the last couple of years. Even so, Ford gives the Bronco incredible capabilities that are perfect for even the most challenging trails, plus gorgeous interior features and advanced safety systems to help you make the most of every drive.

In terms of power and performance, these are both fine SUVs, but you get a lot more from the Bronco. Ford gives the 2026 Bronco a standard turbocharged engine with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque; by comparison, the starting engine of the Wrangler offers just 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is far behind. You can achieve better performance with the available engines for the Wrangler, but only with the high-end Moab 392 model, which most folks we know are not likely to opt for. Off-road performance is good with both of these SUVs, but Ford gives you greater water fording capabilities, impressive ground clearance, and more to enjoy out on the trail.

When taking care of business throughout the week, you will enjoy yourself a lot more in the Ford Bronco—in part thanks to its incredibly comfortable ride quality and great handling. Looking inside, you get a pair of 12-inch displays up front in the Bronco that are easy to use; the Wrangler has a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, but the best it can do for its driver is an available seven-inch driver information display. Most concerning of all, however, is that the Wrangler lacks many safety systems; for example, a Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking is available but not standard. Every Bronco comes with Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, with more great systems available.

Performance and Engine Options

No matter what kind of vehicle you are interested in, you deserve to get something that is fun to drive and that feels great on the road. Although some see off-road SUVs like the Bronco as a niche model, Ford understands that you still want to have a great driving experience day after day. Moreover, they ensure that every Bronco model is fun to drive and feels great on the road thanks to bold, robust performance. Jeep falls behind in this area, however, which is a shame for Wrangler fans, and it makes us wonder why Jeep does not put more power under its hood.

The Wrangler’s Engine Options

Looking at the 2026 Wrangler, there are several engines on offer, but we will not worry about the plug-in hybrid option (just to keep things simple). The standard engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that provides 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is fine but not exactly exceptional. There is an available 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, but we have a hard time calling that an upgrade. Topping things off is an available 6.4L HEMI V8 with 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is fantastic but only offered on the Moab 392 model, an incredibly niche, high-end option. An eight-speed automatic transmission is provided with all of these engines, although a six-speed manual is available with the starting powertrain.

The Bronco’s Engine Options

Right off the bat, Ford gives you more with the Bronco’s standard engine: a 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged I-4 that provides 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. You can see that there is greater performance than most Wrangler engines, and if you want enhanced power, an available 2.7L turbocharged V6 engine is available, delivering 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. This makes tremendous performance incredibly accessible with the Bronco, and a 3.0L turbocharged V6 is available for the Raptor trim, offering even more power. All of these engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission for an incredibly responsive drive, plus a seven-speed manual is available for the standard engine if you prefer greater control.

Off-Road Capabilities

These are both off-road SUVs, so you expect them to deliver impressive capabilities for hitting the trail. We are pleased to say that both of these models have some great features for heading off-road—it would be shocking if the Wrangler did not. That being said, Ford gives you enhanced features, robust capabilities, and innovative technology for enjoying the trail with the Bronco. The result is a superior model designed to let you leave the comforts of civilization behind and make the most of your time going off-road.

The Bronco Is Ready for Adventure

Every Bronco model comes with four-wheel drive (4×4) performance, as you would expect, along with Ford’s Goes Over Any Type of Terrain (G.O.A.T.) Modes for advanced traction control. Five G.O.A.T. Modes are standard for the Bronco, although select trims like the Badlands give you seven modes for enhanced terrain management capabilities. Every model comes with a High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system designed to provide incredible articulation and precision in the roughest conditions. Going with something like the Stroppe Edition gets you a HOSS 3.0 system with FOX Internal Bypass Dampers for even greater capabilities. With up to 13.1 inches of ground clearance and 37 inches of water fording available, the Bronco is ready to go anywhere, while tech features like Trail Turn Assist and Trail Control give you more tools for conquering the toughest trails.

The Wrangler Trails Behind

Looking at the Jeep Wrangler, it has plenty of fine off-road features too, but we simply do not find the same level of innovative capability here. Every Wrangler has 4×4, as we expect to see, with the Rubicon model getting a part-time Rock-Trac System with enhanced control and torque that is good, but we prefer the HOSS system. The Wrangler still lacks a terrain management system like the Bronco’s G.O.A.T. Modes, which is a shame, opting for available front and rear locking differentials. Jeep delivers up to 12.9 inches of ground clearance with the Wrangler and only 34 inches of maximum water fording, falling short of the Bronco. There are some nice features here overall, but we will stick to the Bronco’s terrific off-road tech and sleek design.

Interior Tech and Comfort Features

Although these are both off-road SUVs, you are not likely to spend all of your time with them going camping or tearing up the trail. Most of us cannot have a dedicated off-road machine, so these SUVs need to be our daily drivers too. Both the Bronco and Wrangler work just fine for getting through your daily commute, but there are some clear differences between them in this regard. It should come as no surprise that Ford gives you more to enjoy as you take care of everything you need to do each day (as well as when you are on the trail on the weekend).

Standard and Available Features on the Bronco

Standard features on the Bronco include single-zone climate control, remote keyless access, and cruise/audio controls on the steering wheel. You get a gorgeous 12-inch LCD capacitive center display up front along with a 12-inch LCD Digital Instrument Cluster screen to go with it, plus a seven-speaker sound system with a subwoofer and cloth seating. If you upgrade to a higher trim level, such as the Badlands model, you’ll gain enhanced features, including Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, available leather-trimmed seating, a B&O 12-speaker sound system, and heated front seats. You can also get a 10-way power driver’s seat and an eight-way power front-passenger seat to ensure you and your co-pilot are quite comfortable.

The Wrangler’s Features Are Limited

The 2026 Jeep Wrangler starts with manual air conditioning, a six-way manual driver’s seat, and a four-way manual front-passenger seat. Not too long ago, small displays were the hallmark of the Wrangler, but now Jeep provides a standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen up front. Sadly, an available seven-inch driver display is a poor companion to the central screen, although the standard sound system is better than we expected. The available nine-speaker Alpine sound system is fine, but it fails to fill the Wrangler’s cabin with the kind of audio you can get inside the Bronco with its advanced B&O sound system.
