If you are looking for a sporty, compact crossover, you should take a look at the differences between the 2020 Ford Ecosport vs 2020 Chevy Trax. These petite SUVs are perfect for life in the city as well as heading off on weekend adventures.
Both vehicles can seat five passengers comfortably. The Ecosport offers 20.9 cubic feet of room behind the back row. If you fold down the rear seats, you can gain access to 50 cubic feet of space. As for the Trax, it provides 18.7 cubic feet of cargo room with all five seats in use. Folding down the back row will give you 48.4 cubic feet, which is a bit less than the Ecosport.
The two athletic SUVs also have some similar tech features such as Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity for hands-free calling and syncing your mobile device. They also are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless music streaming so you can listen to your personalized playlists everywhere you go.
Let’s dive deeper and take a look at the performance specs, interior features, and exterior design elements of these two vehicles.
The 2020 Ford Ecosport is available with two engine options. The first is equipped with the S, SE, and Titanium models. It’s a turbocharged 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine that generates 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. Mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD, this powertrain has a fuel economy set at 28 mpg combined (27 city/29 highway). Standard on the SES model and optional on the other trim levels is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 166 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and 4WD, this powertrain gets about 25 mpg combined (23 city/29 highway). This vehicle also has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.
As for the 2020 Chevy Trax, it is only available with one engine. Resting under the hood is a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD (AWD is optional), it has a fuel economy set at 28 mpg combined (26 city/31 highway). It also has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, which is significantly less than the Ecosport.
There are four trim levels available on the 2020 Ford Ecosport. The base is known as the S model. It includes standard features such as a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and height-adjustable front seats for maximum comfort. The 60/40-split rear seats make it easy to configure the back the way you want it. The infotainment interface is displayed on a 4.2-inch monitor that operates with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling. You can listen to your favorite music through the 6-speaker stereo system, and dual USB ports are provided for charging your mobile devices. One more nifty feature on this model is the 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. This will keep you connected to your favorite apps everywhere you go.
Next is the SE version. Keyless entry and ignition make it easy to get in and get going. The steering wheel and shift knob are both wrapped in leather for a sophisticated touch, and the power-adjustable front seats are heated for comfort during the winter months. Automatic climate control also comes in handy during the changing seasons. As for tech features, this model includes the Sync 3 infotainment interface that is displayed on an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen. Satellite radio is also included as well as compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Rear parking sensors have been added to help prevent fender benders, and there is even a luxurious sunroof.
If you want something more athletic, you can opt for the SES. This sporty ride includes cabin upgrades such as a heated steering wheel and leather upholstery with cloth inserts. Additional safety features have also been added, including rear cross-traffic alert and blindspot monitoring. To set a relaxing mood inside the cabin, you can utilize the ambient lighting feature. Other additions include a navigation system, a 7-speaker sound system, and a 110-volt household-style power outlet.
Finally, the Titanium model adds luxurious upgrades such as full leather upholstery and a premium 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo. HD radio has also been included for more music options.
On the other hand, the 2020 Chevy Trax is only available in three trims. Coming up one short seems to be a trend with the Trax when compared to the Ford Ecosport.
The first version is called the LS. The power-adjustable driver’s seat features lumbar support for comfort during long drives, and the 60/40-split-folding rear seat is similar to the Ecosport’s back seat. The vehicle’s infotainment interface is displayed on a 7-inch touchscreen and operates with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for using your phone through your infotainment system.
As with the Ecosport’s base model, the Trax LS also comes with dual USB ports for charging your mobile devices and a 6-speaker stereo system for listening to music. A 4G LTE Wifi hotspot is also included. If you want a little something extra, you can add the Tint and Cruise package, which is exactly what it sounds like. It adds a window tint and cruise control.
Next is the LT. Most of the upgrades on this model are external, which we will cover in a bit. The cabin receives premium cloth upholstery and additional storage space under the passenger seat. Also included are a 110-volt household-style power outlet, satellite radio, and a cargo cover. Adding the LT Convenience package will get you faux leather inserts on the upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and keyless ignition/entry.
For more safety features, you can opt for the Driver Confidence package, which includes rear parking sensors, blindspot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want a better stereo and a sunroof, you can add the Sun and Sound package. With it, you will get a premium 7-speaker Bose sound system and a sunroof. The top-tier trim is known as the Premier. It comes standard with all of the LT packages plus it also has heated seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, forward collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
When purchasing a new vehicle, it’s not just what’s on the inside that counts. The exterior is important, as well. Both of these compact crossovers have unique styling elements that are dependent on the trim level.
Rolling on 16-inch alloy wheels, the Ecosport S includes automatic headlights. The SE adds foglamps, LED running lights, roof rails, body-colored accents, and a handy windshield wiper de-icer. The SES rides on larger 17-inch wheels and featured heated side mirrors, black accents, a sport-tuned suspension for better handling, and a spoiler. Opting for the Black Appearance package will add a black roof, spoiler, and decal for the hood. The top-tier Titanium model adds rain-sensing wipers that come in handy during inclement weather. It also includes heated side mirrors, metallic accents on the bumpers, and chrome trim.
On the flip side, the 2020 Trax LS is similarly equipped to the base Ecosport model with 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic headlights. The LT version gets upgraded LED running lights, heated side mirrors, and roof rails for extra storage. If you get the LT Redline Edition, it will come with 18-inch alloy wheels that have been painted black with red accents. It will also feature black exterior accents. Lastly, the Premier rides on different 18-inch wheels and has foglamps.
As for paint colors, the Ecosport is available in 10 shades, including Shadow Black, Smoke, Moondust Silver, Diamond White, White Platinum, Lightning Blue, Blue Candy, Ruby Red, Race Red, and Canyon Ridge.
Coming up one short again, the Trax is only available in 9 paint colors. These include Mosaic Black Metallic, Black Cherry Metallic, Nightfall Gray Metallic, Satin Steel Gray, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Pacific Blue Metallic, Cajun Red Metallic, and Red Hot.
