The 2018 Ford Fusion is available with four different engines, but the base model engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that gets up to 175 horsepower. Certainly not shabby for a base-engine, but if you’re looking for a car with a little more zip, you may want to check out the other engine options, such as either of the two turbocharged EcoBoost engines. There’s a 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost that gets 181 horsepower or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that gets a much-improved 245 horsepower – most drivers will want to opt for the 2.0-liter, especially if you’re a frequent freeway driver.
If none of those engine options gets your heart pumping, then go ahead and check out the engine on the Ford Fusion Sport. Thanks to its twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine, the Ford Fusion Sport flies thanks to the 325 horses that gallop under its roof. Offering ultra-impressive power and performance in a class not typically celebrated for its thrilling rides, the 2018 Ford Fusion Sport offers refined excitement and phenomenal handling for those looking to elevate their drive to work into a truly thrilling driving experience.
All of that extra speed will translate into more frequent stops at the gas station, as the Sport gets an EPA estimated 17 miles to the gallon in the city and 26 miles to the gallon on the highway as opposed to the base model 2.5-liter four cylinder which gets 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Ultimately, no matter if you choose to buy your Fusion based on performance or fuel-economy, you’ll always drive confidently in your 2018 Ford Fusion.
While it’s always great to buckle up your seatbelt and know that you have a trillion gadgets and amenities to take the sting out of sitting in traffic, nothing beats the peace of mind of knowing that you are also well-protected from any hazards you may face on the open road. The 2018 Ford Fusion offers drivers that reassurance, thanks in part to a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Doubling down on its safety kudos is the Ford Fusion’s 2018 Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Ford Fusion occupants are well-equipped with a multitude of airbags lining the cabin, including first and second row side-curtain airbags and driver and front-seat passenger knee airbags. Additionally, the Ford Fusion comes with AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control and LATCH anchors for safe car-seat installation. Of course, there is also an impressive array of advanced safety technology that can be loaded into the Fusion, such as rear parking sensors, automatic parking capability, blind-spot monitoring and forward collision warning, just to name a few. Additionally, all Ford Fusion models come with Ford’s MyKey technology, which allows owners to preset speed and volume limits on the sedan for drivers that may need a little guidance on the road (think easily distractible and overwhelmed new drivers).
People shopping for a 2018 Ford Fusion may find that they have a love/hate relationship with one aspect of the model, and that is the dizzying level of customizable configuration that Ford has built into the 2018 Fusion. Although the Ford Fusion is offered in five trim levels (the S, the SE, the Titanium, the Platinum and the V6 Sport), there is a vast array of available packages and options that can be added to create a 2018 Ford Fusion that meets almost any buyer’s list of needs or wants.
Of course, you may also find that the trims levels are perfectly equipped just as they come. For instance, the base-model 2018 Ford Fusion S comes standard with a push-button start, a rearview camera, Ford’s SYNC infotainment interface, automatic headlights, cruise control, Bluetooth functionality, smartphone integration, a 4.2-inch display screen, a USB port, an auxiliary jack, a CD player, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat. The starting MSRP for the 2018 Ford Fusion S is $22,120, which of course does not factor in any options you may end up adding, such as the Appearance package, which will upgrade the standard 16-inch alloy wheels to 18-inch alloy wheels and add a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and foglights.
For as loaded as the base model S is, the Ford Fusion SE adds a little something extra with it’s exterior keypad entry, fold-down armrest for backseat passengers, LED daytime running lights and it’s six-speaker audio system equipped with satellite radio. The SE also offers more package options, including the aforementioned Appearance package in addition to the Luxury package, which comes with LED headlights and foglights, remote and keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery and a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. Opt for the Technology package as well, and your Fusion SE will have Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, two USB charging ports, rear parking sensors, an 11-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-inch touchscreen LCD display.
Of course, if safety is a high priority for you, you’ll want to consider equipping your 2018 Ford Fusion SE with the Driver Assist package. Not only will you have advanced safety technology such as lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert and lane-keep assist systems, but you’ll also load the car up with automatic wipers, automatic high-beam control, a heated steering wheel and a 110-volt power outlet. It probably goes without saying, but there is also an optional sunroof available, as well.
Incredibly, there are still three higher-level trims to explore. The 2018 Ford Fusion Titanium offers a 12-speaker Sony audio system, heated sports front seats, HD radio and many of the features you’ll find available in the package options of the S and SE trims. Of course, there are also options for the Titanium trim, including rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic parking assist and voice-activated navigation, just to name a few. The 2018 Ford Fusion Sport closely mimics the Titanium, but is powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 for a little extra oomph. Finally, the Ford Fusion Platinum rounds out the trims and is essentially just fully loaded with all of the previously mentioned amenities, although it does also have premium leather seats and a pre-collision system that offers pedestrian detection in addition to automatic emergency braking. The Ford Fusion Platinum has a starting MSRP of $36,895, which is certainly a reasonable price point for a sedan that offers such a vast array of top-quality interior amenities.
