Ford vehicles combine ingenuity with comfort, all in an affordable package. The lineup has always focused on vehicles that can perform well and adapt to meet your needs. The 2023 Ford Explorer is an outstanding example of what Ford can do when put to task, building an SUV that molds and conforms to individual drivers and families. In recent years, people have switched over to SUVs as the premier choice of bodystyle. These vehicles are functional for daily life, fun to drive, and more appealing than a minivan.

For 2023, Ford hasn’t shifted much of the lineup. Instead, it has renewed fan-favorite features and available trim levels. As far as three-row SUVs are concerned, the Explorer has reigned as one of the most popular models for quite some time. The 2023 lineup features eight trim levels and a wide range of extra options and packages. Similar to past models, the 2023 Ford Explorer feels high-end and expensive without actually breaking the bank. Loaded with quality features, innovative technology, and plenty of safety and driver–assistance technologies, this model continues the legacy of the Explorer without skipping a beat.

    Impeccable Performance

Ford customers have come to expect impeccable performance from their vehicles, and the 2023 Ford Explorer is here to answer the call. From impressive performance from the available powertrains to remarkable towing capabilities, this Explorer is versatile in its ability to work for you. You can choose from three available engines that deliver power and efficiency when you need it most, and there is an option for either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Plus, the Explorer can assist with towing and is designed with off-roading capabilities to help you tackle your next adventure.

The standard 2023 Explorer is built with a 2.3L turbocharged inline-four engine that delivers 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged design provides plenty of power for an SUV of this size without sacrificing fuel economy. The 10-speed automatic transmission seamlessly moves with you at any speed, helping to facilitate easy acceleration onto freeways or through congested traffic. Most of the trim levels are available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but the off-road-oriented Timberline trim comes standard with all-wheel drive.

The King Ranch, ST, and Platinum trims are configured with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine. This engine houses more power, delivering 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Once again, the turbocharged design allows this engine to compete with V8 competitors while burning less fuel. This engine features Auto Start-Stop technology and direct injection to further increase efficiency. However, if saving fuel is your main concern, there is a 3.3L V6 hybrid that conserves gas while still delivering an impressive 318 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque.

    Towing and Off-Roading

The 2023 Explorer comes loaded with towing capabilities and off-roading features. Your Explorer can be set in Tow/Haul mode on the standard Terrain Management System. This will allow the SUV to handle up to 5,600 lbs of towing when equipped with the 3.0L V6 engine. Opting for the other powertrains will reduce towing by a small amount, with the base 2.3L handling up to 5,300 lbs and the 3.3L hybrid managing to pull up to 5,000 lbs. No matter which engine you choose, you will have no problem hauling a boat or small camper.

The Terrain Management System also effectively handles irregular driving conditions and off-roading. It comes with seven selectable driving modes, including Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow/Haul, and Eco Mode. When combined with the available all-wheel drive, this feature can easily handle winter weather and light off-roading. For those with more serious off-roading ambitions, the Timberline trim comes standard with 8.66 inches of ground clearance, a limited-slip rear differential, upgraded suspension, and all-terrain tires.

    Comfort, Style, and Convenience

The 2023 Ford Explorer interior is designed around comfort, style, and convenience. It’s loaded with today’s best entertainment technologies, so you can feel connected, even on the go. There is no shortage of space, with tons of cargo room and seating for up to seven passengers. The Explorer helps you navigate everyday tasks like grocery shopping, running errands, transporting sporting equipment, pets, camping gear, or whatever else you bring along for the ride.

You can choose between having a second-row bench or second-row captain’s chairs, depending on if you require seating for six or seven passengers. Behind the third row, there are 18.2 cu.ft. of cargo space. With the third row folded flat, that space expands to 47.9 cu.ft., and with the second row of seating folded down, the total available cargo space is 87.8 cu.ft. A power-folding third row is available to further increase utility.

    Technology to Entertain

Enjoy all your favorite music, audiobooks, and podcasts with crystal clear sound delivered through an available Bang and Olufsen sound system that comes with 12 speakers and a subwoofer. If you want even more audio, you can upgrade to a B&O system that has 14 speakers. The entertainment doesn’t end there. The 2023 Explorer comes equipped with SYNC 3 technology and FordPass Connect. It also has an available 10.1-inch portrait touchscreen with user-friendly controls and a vibrant customizable display.

Sit back and enjoy the premium feel of multi-color ambient lighting for the first and second rows. Available Multicontour seating in soft, durable materials provides comfort on even the longest commutes. Active Motion seats help curb fatigue by offering five upper and lower back massage settings. Depending on the trim, seating is available in cloth or leather, with optional heated and ventilated captains chairs for the utmost comfort in every season.

  • Driver Assistance

    Ford Co-Pilot360

There is no shortage of high-tech safety and driver-assistance features on the 2023 Explorer. From helpful standard safety features to innovative extras like Active Park Assist 2.0 and Side Wind Stabilization, the Explorer goes above and beyond to ensure its drivers are getting into a vehicle that inspires confidence. The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite is there to support you when you need it.

With Auto High-Beam Headlamps, your Explorer can detect poor lighting conditions and switch on lights automatically, then dim these lights when there is oncoming traffic. A rearview camera helps you easily navigate driveways and parking lots. A Blind Spot Information System detects and alerts you to vehicles in your blind spot, while Cross-Traffic Alert serves to help detect traffic behind you as you move in reverse.

    A Feature for Every Situation

A Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking alerts you to a collision danger with either another vehicle or pedestrian in front of your Explorer. If you fail to react in time, your Explorer will automatically apply the brakes. The Lane Keeping System scans your Explorer’s position between lines on the road and alerts you if you begin drifting. If you start drifting repeatedly, your vehicle will show a coffee cup icon as a suggestion to take a break. Finally, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control is the modern way to enjoy cruise control technology with added Speed Sign Recognition and the capability to slow your vehicle based on your surroundings.

The 2023 Explorer also has additional safety features that are revolutionary in nature. For example, every Explorer comes with standard Side Wind Stabilization. This works to help you keep the vehicle on its intended path during gusty winds and high wind conditions. There is also available Active Park Assist 2.0, which makes parking a breeze, even in the tightest of parallel or perpendicular spots. An available 360-Degree Camera with Split-View Display provides continuous views of everything around your vehicle, perfect for navigating tight spaces, off-roading, and hooking up trailers.
