Comparing the 2025 Ford F-350 to the 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD

Most people who look at the 2025 Ford F-350 vs 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD will be quick to call them indiscernible, but while these two heavy-duty truck models certainly have some similarities, there are also some pretty big differentiators between them. Both are impressive trucks with high horsepower and towing stats, known by laborers across the country as the true workhorses of the job site, boasting the power to get any job done.
The 2025 F-350 and 2025 Silverado 3500 HD are both similarly priced, with the Ford being marginally higher for the base price—however, you’ll get a lot more for your dollar. Nevertheless, it can be difficult to decide which of these two trucks is the better fit for you. Read on to learn some of the key differences, and be sure to check out the 2025 F-350 for yourself in person here at DePaula Ford.
Updates for Both Brands’ Workhorses in 2025
Ford and Chevy both introduced some updates in their heavy-duty trucks for 2025. The F-350 saw a significant boost in ease of towing with the introduction of individual tire pressure monitoring for attached trailers. Ford also added auxiliary cameras for a better view. New color accents and exterior choices were added to the lineup, as well as leather upholstery options and interior color schemes.
Updates from Chevy for the 2025 Silverado 3500 HD were more modest, including standard adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors. Both models also have a number of changes to their packages and availability specific to each trim that was updated for 2025.

Multiple Incredibly Powerful Engine Options
Available with either a gas V8 or a diesel V8, both trucks have impressive engine options, as well as ten-speed automatic transmissions and either four- or rear-wheel drive. However, the 2025 F-350 does offer more engine options than the 2025 Silverado 3500 HD. The heavy-duty Silverado 3500 is only available in a gas-powered 6.6L V8 (401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque) or a diesel-powered 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 (470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque). The F-350 has twice as many options for the engine depending on the amount of power needed.
Ford’s four engine options for the 2025 F-350 include two gas-powered powerplants, a 6.8L V8 (405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque) and a 7.3L “Godzilla” V8 (430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque), and two diesel-powered powerplants, a 6.7L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 (475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque) and a 6.7L Power Stroke High Output turbo-diesel V8 (500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque). Clearly, Ford’s engine options outdo Chevy’s in both major metrics.
Impressive Towing and Payload Capabilities
The 2025 Silverado 3500 HD only gets a slight advantage in towing capability over the Ford F-350 when comparing their base gas engines. If you outfit your heavy-duty truck with dual-rear wheels and the appropriate equipment, you can get as much as 19,080 lbs of towing from Chevy’s gas V8; Ford’s base gas V8 can get 18,900 lbs of towing strength, while its larger gas V8 can get as much as 22,500 lbs. As for diesel engines, Chevy’s V8 can get 36,000 lbs of towing strength, but Ford’s base V8 can get 36,400 lbs, and its high-output V8 can get a monstrous 38,000 lbs.
Depending on the configuration, the Chevy Silverado 3500 HD can haul as much as 7,237 lbs with its gas V8 and 6,638 lbs with its diesel V8. Ford’s base gas V8 can haul 8,000 lbs, while its larger gas V8 can still haul more than Chevy’s truck, at 7,635 lbs. As for diesel, both of Ford’s engines again can haul more than Chevy’s, with 6,952 lbs for the base V8 and 6,935 lbs for the high-output V8. These trucks are both massive powerhouses when it comes to transporting heavy loads, but Ford is clearly the winner.
The Shape and Utility of the Rear Cargo Bed
Both heavy-duty trucks are available in one of two bed configurations: standard or extended. The F-350’s standard bed length is six feet, eight inches, offering 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Ford’s extended bed length is eight feet, two inches, offering 78.5 cubic feet of space. The Chevy Silverado 3500 HD’s standard bed length is six feet, nine inches, offering 69.5 cubic feet for cargo—slightly more than Ford’s standard bed. Chevy’s extended bed measures an equivalent eight feet, two inches, but its deeper Durabed grants it more cargo space, at 83.5 cubic feet.
The Cab Options for These Fords and Chevys
Anyone planning to travel with passengers will appreciate the interior advantages of the F-350. Ford has the most options for interior space, with three cabin options to choose from: Regular Cab, Crew Cab, and SuperCab. The Silverado 3500 HD only has two options: Regular Cab and Crew Cab. Having the additional option, with SuperCab in the F-350, means you can make sure you have enough interior space to keep your crew comfortable on long drives.

Design Elements for Each Heavy-Duty Truck
The F-350 has plenty of options to bring a stark design and aesthetic to the road. Available in five trims—the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum—truck shoppers are sure to find a style for the F-350 that appeals to them. Depending on the trim level, the F-350 can be equipped with different sizes of wheels, giving you even more options. Exterior color options for a 2025 F-350 have eight choices, including new colors Avalanche and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.
The 2025 Silverado 3500 HD is available in six color options. Slightly fewer wheel sizes are available, and they are rather limited by trim, with Chevy offering four trims on this model: the WT, LT, LTZ, and High Country. On the inside, the Silverado 3500 HD comes standard with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, with the option to upgrade to a 13.4-inch one. The F-350’s base touchscreen measures 8 inches, while its larger version measures 12 inches.
Both are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the F-350 has a slight advantage over the Silverado’s technology and available features. Larger cab models of the F-350 are equipped with accessory lights, as well as two 120-volt power outlets. Ford has the option to upgrade its audio suite to a Bang & Olufsen stereo system with 14 speakers for even more listening enjoyment. The maximum number of speakers available in the Silverado 3500 HD is seven, making for a less impactful sound system.
