How the 2024 Ford Edge Has an Edge Over Its Nissan Murano Competitor

With each new model year comes a wealth of innovative features and upgrades. If you’ve been on the hunt for a reliable midsize SUV, we suggest checking out the 2024 Ford Edge, but don’t take our word for it; compare it to one of its competitors, such as the Nissan Murano. Both midsize SUVs are made for those with gear-heavy hobbies like camping and kayaking, owners of a dog or two, and for the family of five. While on the surface level, it may seem as though both models are the same, upon further investigation, the Ford Edge comes out on top as the superior midsize SUV.
When considering a new vehicle like our Ford Edge for sale, we really encourage our buyers to experience it in person. We want the design, colors, and interior features to meet your needs and suit your style so you can drive happily for many years and miles ahead. A new SUV is a big investment, and we want you to make the right choice. Let’s address some of those main differences in performance, model options, and styling that we think place the Edge a notch above the Murano and why you should stop by and test drive one today.
Inspired Sporty Design
Going off the beaten path is more popular today than at any other time in driving history. That’s why today’s SUVs pack a sporty punch, but some hit harder than others. The Edge has a bolder look and a much more dynamic stance than the Murano—by comparison, the Edge always looks ready for action. Simple and streamlined, the Edge design team fretted less with chrome accents that could easily scratch, framing the front grille and down the body and roof lines to give buyers solid color with sturdy, solid black trim. The Edge outdoes the Murano in exterior color options, making building your Edge more customizable and personalized. We think the Burgundy Velvet hue is an absolutely stunning color option! And like the cherry on an ice cream sundae, the sport-inspired appearance is topped off with a rear spoiler over the liftgate, silver-painted aluminum wheels, and an available roof rack ready to carry your gear to the next adventure.
When comparing interiors, the Ford Edge screams innovation and embraces the new future. A large standard 12-inch infotainment screen makes selecting your favorite apps (for navigation or music entertainment) and personalized settings incredibly convenient and easy to see from the driver’s seat. The rotary gear shift dial is becoming increasingly popular for its ease of use and decluttering of your center console—no more getting the strap of your favorite bag caught on the stick shift when getting in and out of your vehicle! Plus, it looks sleek and futuristic, allowing for a large storage compartment perfect for a phone, wallet, and on-the-go snacks. It’s even designed with a downward angle to prevent your items from sliding out.
The Murano stayed with a stick shifter design, and it dominates their center console, looking slightly outdated in the way of the cupholder and tiny storage cubbyhole. Smaller details like the rubber matting around the console and the grippier steering wheel give the Edge a more rugged design. Keeping most of the interior dashboard details matte black, even when the Dune interior color is chosen, is automatically edgier than accenting everything in chrome as Nissan chose to do. The edgier design is fun in the Edge!

Power and Performance
Here’s where the comparison between the two SUVs gets fun: every model of the 2024 Ford Edge comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), whereas the Murano only offers AWD on select models. For the adventurer, the winter climate resident, and the occasional rough road explorer, AWD is a must to help keep you in control by providing more traction and keep you churning up those steep dirt hill climbs or snowy backroads to the local ski hill. The 2.0L EcoBoost engine, with Auto Start-Stop Technology, comes standard with all but one model, the Edge ST, and offers 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
The Edge ST comes with the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine for those who want more performance, a bigger boost of horsepower, and to really crank that torque, with 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Paired with these great-performing engines are an 8-speed or a 7-speed automatic transmission, respectively. The Murano models are all given the 3.5-liter V6 engine that offers 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. While this engine has a slight edge over the Edge’s standard engine in regards to horsepower, it really can’t compete when it comes to torque. Also, the Edge’s optional 2.7L engine is far superior to the Murano’s sole engine.
Room to Breathe
The Edge and the Murano both seat five passengers and offer a hands-free proximity rear liftgate. But if you’re looking to stretch out a little longer or sit up taller, the Edge has been meticulously designed to give every extra inch of interior to you and your passengers, making more leg, head, and shoulder room for riding in comfort, even in the rear seat! Also addressed was the rear cargo space area; again, the Edge inches out the Murano with a few more cubic feet of cargo space to haul all your family’s beach toys to the lake, including Fido! The Edge offers an impressive 73.4 cu.ft. of cargo space, while the Murano only gives you 67 cu.ft.
Both Ford and Nissan come in tied for cargo space organization add-on packages like a bungee tie-down net, cargo tote or cargo area retractable covers. For those bigger adventures that require the ability to tow cargo, you’ll be happy to know that the Ford Edge offers up to 3,500 lbs of towing capacity, while the Murano gives you a disappointing 1,500 lbs. If capability is at the top of your list as a must-have feature in your next SUV, you will definitely want to take the Edge out for a test drive!
