How the 2026 Ford F-150 Surpasses Its 2026 Ram 1500 Rival

Have you been shopping around for a Ram 1500 or Ford F-150 for sale near Schenectady? These two full-size, light-duty pickups regularly attract professionals in search of a flexible truck that can dominate jobsites and transition into a daily driver for family life or errands.
The question is: which one should you be looking at when it’s time for a new truck? We did a side-by-side comparison of some of the features that we know matter most to pickup drivers, like performance, capability, and utility.
Not surprisingly, the 2026 Ford F-150 outshines the Ram 1500 across the board. There’s a reason it’s been one of America’s best-selling vehicles for decades. The 2026 model continues to impress us with thoughtful features, designed for those who spend their days around power tools and workbenches, or just need a reliable and rugged pickup to carry the whole family.
What Are Your Engine Options?
Versatility is usually a priority amongst light-duty truck shoppers. This vehicle class attracts those seeking a reliable workhorse, a solid daily driver, a recreational vehicle, and sometimes all of the above. That’s why having multiple engine options is a smart choice for manufacturers in this market.
The F-150 offers a total of six powertrains to choose from, including three pure gas V6s, two V8s, and a hybrid powertrain. The Ram 1500 only offers four engines, including two pure gas six-cylinders, a mild hybrid V6, and a HEMI V8. Shoppers who choose the Ford F-150 will have more powertrain options, allowing them to select the engine that best complements their unique applications.
Between the F-150’s engine options, drivers can select an engine that prioritizes fuel economy, puts the emphasis on towing power, amplifies acceleration, or even offers a blend of several of these traits. Shoppers who choose the Ram 1500 are simply going to have fewer options and will be forced to stay in a narrow lane, mostly prioritizing fuel economy or power and performance.
Towing and Payload Figures
Want to tow a boat out to the Mohawk River for a day on the water, or a tractor across a jobsite? The F-150 is equipped to tow larger vessels than the Ram 1500. The F-150’s maximum towing figure, which you’ll unlock with the 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine, sits at 13,500 lbs. The Ram 1500’s top towing figure sits at 11,610 lbs, which you’ll access when you equip your truck with the 3.0L Hurricane turbocharged I-6 engine.
With a maximum towing figure that sits at nearly 2,000 lbs higher than the Ram 1500’s, the Ford F-150 simply opens up more possibilities for work and recreation. You can take larger vessels along for camping trips and road trips, and transport bigger equipment for work.
The F-150 outperforms the Ram 1500 in payload figures as well. The F-150 can haul up to 2,440 lbs, while the Ram 1500 can only haul up to 2,360 lbs. The difference is minor, but it can make a big difference when there’s one more toolbox or dirt bike to toss in the bed, and you’re nearly at capacity.

The Bed and Tailgate
If you’re looking for a truck specifically for work or recreation around Schenectady, then the bed and tailgate features are important to consider. Whether you’re working at a construction site or getting ready for a tailgate party, you’ll be spending a lot of time at the rear of your truck, loading items, preparing materials, and more. The F-150 offers three bed sizes, the largest of which measures eight feet in length. The Ram 1500 offers just two bed sizes, the largest of which is 6.3 feet. If you know you regularly need to transport extra-long items, the F-150 has the best bed length for your needs.
Now, let’s look at the tailgate specifically. Both models do offer a non-traditional tailgate, delivering more than your usual drop-down action. The Ram 1500 has its Multi-Function tailgate, featuring a 60/40 split-door design. Instead of just one regular tailgate, it has two doors that swing out, putting you closer to your bed’s contents. It can also drop down like a regular tailgate.
The F-150 has the Pro Access Tailgate, which has one door that can swing out 100 degrees or drop down like a regular tailgate. Technically, both models let you get closer to your bed’s contents. However, some drivers prefer the Pro Access tailgate because you only need to open one door, instead of two, to gain full access to your bed.
A Mobile Power Generator
Now this is one of the biggest benefits of the Ford F-150: the Pro Power Onboard. It’s a mobile generator that lets you use your truck as a power source. Kicking out 7.2 kW of power and boasting multiple outlets, the Pro Power Onboard lets you plug in power tools at job sites, appliances at campsites, televisions at tailgates, and so much more. It can even keep essential parts of a home going during a blackout.
The Ram 1500 does not have any such mobile power source. It does have one available 115-volt AC outlet, which you get with the Rambox cargo management system, but that’s it. For professionals who regularly travel to job sites where they need power outlets but don’t always have guaranteed access to them, the Pro Power Onboard is a major benefit. In fact, some would call it essential.
An Interior Work Surface
Contractors and similar professionals know that not all work involves power tools and hard hats. Some work takes place at a desk, like going over blueprints and contracts. But, when you don’t have time to stop back at the office between job sites, where are you to handle admin tasks?
The Ford F-150 has a solution: its available interior work surface. With a stowable shifter, this feature lets you unfold the center console into a large, flat work surface. It’s the perfect place to go over paperwork or review documents between more hands-on tasks. The Ram 1500 has no such feature.
