Which All-Electric SUV Gives You More Choices: The Ford Mustang Mach-E or Cadillac OPTIQ?
Only a few years ago, it would have been difficult to find an all-electric compact SUV. But as electrification picks up steam, drivers are getting more and more zero-emission models to choose from, letting them browse multiple options and find something that’s just right. This freedom to strike the perfect balance between budget and included features is important since every individual shopper has their own unique set of needs.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at two compact EV SUVs and see how each one allows drivers to configure it to fit their own needs. In the battle of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ, there are clear distinctions between the two models. If you’re interested in going electric and not sure which EV is right for you, read on to learn more.
Powertrain Options
The Cadillac OPTIQ has a solid powertrain. It comes standard with two motors, giving it all-wheel drive for traction on wet roads. Together, those motors produce an estimated 300 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, so it shouldn’t feel too slow on the road. With its 85 kWh battery, the OPTIQ gives drivers an estimated 300 miles of range. That’s all well and good, but it’s also the only powertrain available. If you want something more geared toward performance or something more affordable, you’re out of luck.
By contrast, the Mustang Mach-E offers five different powertrain options. If you want something similar to the OPTIQ, you can pair the 91 kWh extended range battery with a dual motor setup. This will give you all-wheel drive and the same 300 miles of range, but significantly more power, with 365 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque letting you accelerate quickly and have a thrilling time out on the road. If you want even more power, you can get a specially-tuned version of this powertrain on the GT or Rally trim, giving you 480 hp and up to 700 lb-ft of torque, letting you zip from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
On the other hand, you can also choose from several setups that have less power, but provide their own unique benefits. For instance, if you pair the 91 kWh battery with rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive, you unlock the highest range available on the 2024 Mustang Mach-E: 320 miles. And while the 72 kWh battery may not provide as much range as the extended range battery (250 miles when paired with RWD and 230 miles when paired with AWD), it’s more affordable, making it a good choice for drivers on a budget.

Trim Levels
On paper, the OPTIQ has four trim levels, but when you dig into the details, it’s more accurate to say that it has two trim levels and an available package with extra features. Upgrading from Sport 1 to Sport 2 or Luxury 1 to Luxury 2 gets you the same basic extras: a head-up display, ventilated front seats, lighting animations, etc. In fact, there aren’t many significant differences between Sport and Luxury either. They have the same powertrain, the same infotainment system, and many of the same interior comforts.
The main differences are minor styling distinctions (the wheel design, the pattern in the grille, and different shades of chrome on some exterior accents). Even the prices are pretty similar: the least expensive version of the OPTIQ has a starting MSRP of $54,390, while the most expensive starts at $57,090. The difference between the two is less than $3,000, meaning that this model is catering only to drivers with a very specific price range in mind.
The Mustang Mach-E, on the other hand, has four distinct trims that each have their own personality and range in starting price from $39,995 to $59,995, giving you the freedom to be budget-conscious, lavishly luxurious, or anything in-between.[a] The Select trim is the most affordable but still comes standard with useful features like a 1-pedal drive, LED headlamps, and a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a 15.5-inch central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster behind the wheel. The Premium trim is pretty similar, but its slightly higher price gets you heated front seats, driver’s seat position memory, a power liftgate, a B&O premium sound system, and more.
The top two trims are more performance-oriented, with significant upgrades that make them more responsive and lighting-quick out on the road. In addition to its beefier powertrain, the GT adds a MagneRide damping system for a smooth ride, Brembo front brakes for stopping power, and performance front seats for extra comfort at high speeds. There are also styling differences, including a completely different front end with a bolder attitude, red-painted front and rear brake calipers that are fashionable as well as functional, and an available bronze appearance package with unique accents throughout the exterior. New for 2024, the top-tier Rally takes things even further with a performance upgrade, a unique raised spoiler, Oxford white wheels wrapped with performance tires, an underbody protective shield, and an exclusive RallySport drive mode with its own special settings. The sporty look is topped off with racing stripes and exclusive graphics.
Cargo Storage
As SUVs, both the Mustang Mach-E and the OPTIQ give you the option to fold the rear row of seating flat to expand the cargo area in the back. The Cadillac offers 26 cu.ft. of storage with the rear seats up and 57 cu.ft. with the rear seats down. The Ford gives you more room to play with no matter how you configure the cabin: 30 cu.ft. with all the seats upright and 60 cu.ft. with the back seat flat. On top of that, the Mustang Mach-E has five cubic feet of storage in its front trunk, something that the OPTIQ doesn’t offer. This sealed compartment provides extra security and privacy for valuables and is a useful feature that gives you more ways to store your cargo.

Smartphone Connectivity
Over the last few years, smartphone projection features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have become very popular with drivers. You already have all of your favorite music streamers, navigation apps, and podcatchers downloaded on your phone, so being able to hook your phone up to your car’s interface is a convenient way to use them safely while on the road. The 2024 Mustang Mach-E comes standard with the wireless version of both of these features, so you can hook any compatible phone up to its system (with or without a cord) and have everything you need at your fingertips in seconds.
The 2025 OPTIQ does things differently. It doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto at all. Instead, it comes standard with Google Built-In, a system that only works with Google apps and needs you to connect your account directly to your car. It’s possible to provide both smartphone projection and Google built-in on the same vehicle, but Cadillac has opted not to let their customers choose which one they prefer. Drive an OPTIQ, and you’re locked into the Google built-in system whether you like it or not.
More to Choose, More to Enjoy
While the Cadillac OPTIQ has some solid features, it doesn’t offer drivers much in the way of choice. With the Mustang Mach-E, you can forge your own path forward, going electric in a way that works for you and your budget. With a variety of great trims, powertrains, and more for you to choose from, you can get a Mach-E that feels like it was made just for you.
