Did you know that the venerable pickup truck dates back over a century? The very first model that came out was the Model T Roadster Pickup, released by Ford all the way back in 1925, and the target audience was farmers. These trucks have certainly come a long way over the last 100 years, and they are now much more than just utilitarian vehicles. Two models that are always popular in the full-size pickup class are the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500. If you are in the market for a new truck but can’t decide which to go with, it’s time for a close look at the 2025 Ford F-150 vs 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500. Here you will see exactly how these two models compare in the most important categories.

The F-150 Offers More Powerful Engine Options

The Ford F-150 is one muscular pickup. Under the hood of the XL, STX, and XLT trims, you will find a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. If you go with the Tremor trim, you will get a 5.0-liter V8 that offers 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. The King Ranch and Platinum come with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. This also generates 400 hp, but the torque climbs to 510 lb-ft.

Still not enough power? The Raptor comes with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter high-output EcoBoost V6 engine that will give you 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. For the premier strength and capability, you will want to opt for the Raptor R, which has a supercharged 5.2-liter high-output V8 that pumps out a whopping 720 hp, along with 640 lb-ft of torque.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 also has good power, but it can’t compete with the F-150. Its base engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that puts out 310 hp. Even one of its top engines, like 6.2-liter EcoTec V8, offers a lackluster 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, when compared to the F-150’s powerful Raptor trims.

The F-150 Provides Superior Towing and Hauling Capabilities

If you need a truck that is an excellent workhorse, you will be hard-pressed to find one with more capability than the Ford F-150, as it is a class-leader in both towing and hauling. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 13,500 pounds and to make towing easier, you can equip your truck with Pro Trailer Backup Assist. This pickup offers a maximum payload of 2,440 lbs, and there are three bed sizes to pick from: 5.5 ft, 6.5 ft, and 8 ft.

A nifty available feature is the Pro Access Tailgate. A portion of it swings open like a door, which is convenient for loading and unloading. Other optional features include a tailgate step, soft and hard bed covers, a spray-in bedliner, LED bed lighting, and an in-bed power outlet. The tow rating of the Silverado 1500 maxes out at 13,300. It is also about 200 lbs deficient when it comes to hauling, as it can haul up to 2,260 pounds.

The F-150’s Diverse Off-Road Trim Selection Means More Adventure

The F-150 provides exceptional performance no matter where you take it. If you are an off-road enthusiast or perhaps your work takes you out on rugged terrain, the Tremor trim will accommodate you nicely. In addition to standard four-wheel drive, it has off-road drive modes, along with a locking rear differential and skid plates. Off-road tires, an upgraded suspension, and front tow hooks are also included. If you opt for the Raptor trim, you will get heavy-duty skid plates, Fox racing shocks, a locking transfer case, and 37-inch tires. The Silverado 1500 also has some off-road-focused trims, but they don’t come with as many goodies as the F-150. Plus, the largest tires offered measure in at only 33 inches.

A Closer Look at Space and Comfort

Great for work and weekend adventure, the Ford F-150 is also a fantastic daily driver. One reason is because it has a lot of space inside. While the Regular cab seats three, both the Super and SuperCrew cabs have room for six, and the latter is particularly spacious. In addition to the bed, this truck offers a lot of room inside for cargo, including under-seat storage, and when the rear seats get folded, this reveals another storage space.

The seats in the F-150 are comfortable and come with cloth upholstery, and synthetic leather or genuine leather can be added. Other optional amenities include power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s seat memory settings, and heated rear seats. The Silverado 1500 also fits between three and six people, but in-cabin storage space is lacking. Plus, critics have noted that the seats—especially in the back—are not the most comfortable. Vinyl is the standard upholstery, and anything else requires an upgrade.

Tech Features

Technology is another strong point with the 2025 Ford F-150. First of all, the infotainment system is a pleasure to use, and it is operated via a standard 12-inch touchscreen, as well as voice recognition. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, and keyless entry are also standard. Several features can be added, such as in-dash navigation, wireless device charging, HD radio, and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The Silverado 1500 has some of these components, but satellite radio is not standard. This truck also comes with a small standard seven-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system; upgrading to the larger 13.4-inch version will cost you extra.

Safety Is Standard in the F-150

It is always important that your vehicle makes you feel protected when out on the road, and the F-150 certainly does this. It comes with state-of-the-art protection systems, including Blind Spot Assist, Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Several components can be added, including Evasive Steering Assist, Driver-Attention Monitoring, and a surround-view parking camera system. The Chevy Silverado 1500 has similar features, but not nearly as much standard equipment. Additional features like Side Blind Zone Alert and Front and Rear Park Assist will require an upgrade.
