Although your ideal SUV comes down to what you need most, the 2026 Ford Expedition is the perfect choice if you have a big family or like having a ton of room inside. As a full-size model, the Expedition delivers a massive cabin with room for everyone in your life to pile in, while still leaving you plenty of space for the stuff you need to bring. Many of us remember growing up in bare-bones vehicles that felt rough on the road and offered little in the way of comfort or refinement. The Expedition is a far cry from those vehicles, offering innovative technology, sophisticated features throughout, and a smooth ride on the road. Let’s take a closer look at this beauty, and you’ll see exactly what we mean.

Terrific Standard and Available Safety Features

Although there are many aspects of the Expedition that are great, nothing is more important than how well a vehicle can keep you and your family safe. Ford understands this well, which is why every Expedition comes with an impressive array of standard safety features. To start, you get Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, which includes a Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, and more systems to help you avoid a crash. You also get a Lane-Keeping System with Road Edge Detection and Driver Alert, plus Front and Rear Parking Sensors that make maneuvering in and out of parking spots easier.

While many car companies still consider it an extra option, the Expedition actually comes with a standard Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. Since the Expedition has impressive towing potential, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist are included, making towing easier and safer. You can even take things to the next level with available options, including Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system to make road trips or long daily commutes less demanding. No matter what you’re looking for, having all of this to protect your family is unbeatable.

Plenty of Room to Spread Out

Whether you’re just getting around town or heading out on a big road trip, it’s important that everyone can fit in your vehicle and be comfortable in their own space. The Expedition gives you seating for up to eight passengers when properly configured, meaning big families have plenty of room to hit the road more easily. Some models have seven-passenger seating instead. We should also note that two versions are available: the standard Expedition and the Expedition MAX, which offers greater cargo room if you need to bring more stuff. Here’s what we mean:

Expedition

  • 22.9 cu.ft. of rear cargo space
  • 69.9 cu.ft. of cargo behind second row
  • 108.5 cu.ft. of cargo behind first row

Expedition MAX

  • 37.4 cu.ft. of rear cargo space
  • 84.5 cu.ft. of cargo behind second row
  • 123.1cu.ft. of cargo behind first row

The difference between these two models is pretty significant when it comes to how much stuff you can fit inside. This is mainly at the back, making it functional in all kinds of situations, and it extends the overall length of this SUV by about a foot. While the MAX version isn’t ideal for a small garage, it’s perfect if you need a lot of cargo space.

Innovative Technology Inside and Out

We’ve already pointed out some impressive technology with standard and available safety features, but Ford also offers plenty of convenience and connectivity options. A beautiful 13.2-inch Centerstack display is standard inside the 2026 Expedition, along with a stunning 24-inch Panoramic instrument panel display. These two screens look absolutely amazing and make it easy to keep track of important information while driving. You get a standard six-speaker sound system, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror that helps keep drivers behind you from blinding you with their high beams.

Great tech isn’t limited to the interior either. In the back, you’ll find a re-imagined tailgate with power upper and lower gates for added functionality. You will find some impressive upgrades if you upgrade to a higher trim like the Platinum, such as a 10-speaker B&O sound system with a subwoofer for incredible audio as you drive each day. There’s a 22-speaker B&O Unleashed sound system available if you’re a serious audiophile and want to take things to the next level. An available Open On Approach system for the rear tailgates makes life even easier.

Great Comfort for the Entire Family

To go along with all of the impressive tech features Ford has loaded into this beauty, you’ll also find an incredibly comfortable interior that you’ll look forward to getting into each day. Looking at standard features, we find cloth seats with a ten-way power driver’s seat and an eight-way power front-passenger seat. While eight-passenger seating is standard, you can get seven-passenger seating with a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row instead. Tri-zone automatic climate control is also standard to help keep everyone comfortable throughout the large interior.

The King Ranch trim offers absolutely incredible comfort upgrades, including premium Del Rio leather seating and heated, ventilated front seats. The Mesa/Ebony interior of the King Ranch features additional Del Rio leather surfaces, including the console, doors, and steering wheel, for a beautifully sophisticated cabin, plus brushed aluminum inserts on the scuff plates and more. Overall, the Expedition starts quite comfortably and just gets better as you look at what’s available.

A Powerful Ride That Keeps You in Control

We know that a powerful engine might not be at the top of your list when looking for a great family SUV, but it’s not something to ignore. A full-size SUV should still feel great on the road and ensure you enjoy yourself as you drive, which is just what you find with the 2026 Ford Expedition. There are actually two engine options for the Expedition, starting with a 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 that delivers 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, ensuring you have plenty of muscle for a great daily drive. This is paired with a highly responsive 10-speed automatic transmission, and you can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The Expedition can tow up to 9,600 lbs when properly equipped, making it perfect for hauling a boat, camper, or trailer.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph, a High Output version of this engine boosts performance to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. You can get this engine for the Platinum trim, and it comes standard on the off-road-focused Tremor model. The Tremor also comes with 33-inch all-terrain tires, a Rock Crawl mode for low-speed climbing, and intelligent four-wheel drive with a Terrain Management System for rough conditions. So matter what you want your large, powerful SUV to do, there’s a version of the Expedition that can deliver.
