What Makes the Ford F-150 Lightning So Incredible?

That’s a great question and exactly the sort of thing we love being asked; we’re a Ford dealership, after all, so we enjoy bragging about what the Ford lineup includes. As impressive as the gas-powered F-150 has been for over 40 years, Ford wanted to make something truly innovative and remarkable as they developed the F-150 Lightning and its all-electric performance.
The result is an incredible piece of machinery that delivers impressive power, great capabilities, and a wide range of features designed to stand up to all its competition. Even if you look at something like the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs 2025 Chevy Silverado EV, it’s easy to see how the F-150 Lightning comes out on top and why so many people choose this pickup each year. What makes it so incredible?
Big Power, Performance, and Capabilities
Although we will look at many different features of the F-150 Lightning, there’s no better place to start than with the kind of performance it delivers. This is an all-electric pickup, so there’s no engine here; you get a powerful battery system and motors that drive you forward.
Every 2025 F-150 Lightning comes with a pair of motors, one on the front wheels and the other on the rear wheels, giving you electric all-wheel drive for a great experience on the road. Standard for the F-150 Lightning is a 98-kWh battery that powers the motors to deliver 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque.
You can see that’s already remarkable performance; if you’re looking to get more power from your truck, an available 131-kWh battery boosts output to 580 hp to ensure you have an amazing time on the road each day. This massive performance in a full-size truck like this makes it incredibly rewarding to drive, whether you’re on your way to work or enjoying a day off.
With its standard battery, the F-150 Lightning can haul 7,700 lbs behind it, while the more-powerful battery boosts that to 10,000 lbs of max towing, giving you the muscle you need to tackle any task. This lets you take care of anything you need to do and enjoy every moment you spend behind the wheel of this all-electric beauty.
Impressive Range and Great Charging Options
One key factor to consider with any electric vehicle is its range and how easy it will be to keep it charged each day. Ford’s two battery options are about more than just the capabilities the F-150 Lightning offers, though obviously that’s quite important.
These batteries also dictate the maximum range you can expect from this truck, which can be crucial when you have a big project or are planning a long road trip. Both options are excellent, but it’s important that you consider your typical driving habits and make sure you choose a model with a battery that meets your needs.
The standard 98-kWh battery gets an estimated 240 miles of range from a full charge, which is perfect for getting around town each day and taking care of everything you need to do. If you want a greater range from a single charge, then the available enhanced 131-kWh battery boosts that to 320 miles of range. This is terrific overall performance to get you wherever you need to go.
Ford also makes it easy to keep the F-150 Lightning powered up by supporting numerous charging methods, including Level 2 at-home charging, which is perfect for topping up overnight. You can also utilize the BlueOval Charge Network for fast charging at more than 180,000 chargers across North America, including Tesla Superchargers, which will have you back on the road in no time.

Excellent Features and Innovative Technology
Beyond the impressive performance and capabilities of the F-150 Lightning, Ford has also packed it full of remarkable features that let you go far beyond simply driving around each day. For example, the Mega Power Frunk (or front trunk) gives you more than 14 cu.ft. of additional cargo space beyond what you get with its sizable bed, which is lockable, water resistant, and includes Pro Power Onboard outlets and USB outlets.
By comparison, the Chevy Silverado EV features a front trunk that is notably smaller: just over 10 cu.ft. that gives you less space to utilize and features that we find less functional than what Ford provides. Similarly, the LED zone lighting available with the F-150 Lightning makes it easy to clean up after a hard day’s work or pack up to go home after a day out having fun.
Other features like the available Tailgate Step make it easy to get in and out of the F-150 Lightning’s bed, while the Tailgate Work Surface helps you keep things organized at remote job sites or while working out the details of a weekend landscaping project at home. The tailgate of the 2025 Silverado EV is nice, with good functionality, but we prefer what Ford has to offer.
One of our favorite features of the F-150 Lightning is Ford’s Home Backup Power system, which lets you use this truck to provide emergency power to your house for up to three days. This can make a tremendous difference in a crisis and could even be a matter of life or death if you lose power during an intense winter storm.
Four Exciting Trim Levels to Choose From
One thing Ford does better than just about anyone else is providing you with great choices and options to get everything you are looking for. With the 2025 F-150 Lightning, for example, you have four excellent trim levels to choose from, so you can get the features you want without overlooking or missing out on anything.
The standard XLT trim includes heated front seats, LED zone lighting, a 360-degree camera system, and much more. The Flash trim level offers a larger infotainment system display, comfortable, remarkably durable ActiveX seating, and an advanced eight-speaker B&O sound system.
If you’re looking for a more refined driving experience, the Lariat trim adds a twin-panel moonroof, heated and ventilated front seats for comfort, rear signature lighting, and more. Finally, the Platinum trim lives up to everything you’d expect from Ford with premium Nirvana leather seats that are exquisitely comfortable, a 14-speaker B&O Unleashed sound system, the advanced Pro Power Onboard system, and much more.
Looking at the 2025 Silverado EV, Chevy only offers two trim levels, making it more difficult to get the kinds of features you want with your next truck. Two trims are fine, but that kind of “either/or” selection makes it very hard to ensure you get what you want without missing out or going overboard.

All of This at an Unbelievable Price
Although there’s a lot to love about the F-150 Lightning, what’s probably most impressive is that you can get such incredible features at a fantastic price. The 2025 F-150 Lightning starts at just over $63,000 for the XLT trim, with its impressive selection of features.[a]
By comparison, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV starts at more than $73,000—a difference of around $10k. We’ll admit that Chevy offers quite a lot at that price, but if you’re shopping on a budget or looking for a great electric work truck that also keeps your costs down, then you’re out of luck with Chevy.
In fact, you can move up to the F-150 Lightning Flash model and still spend quite a bit less than what the Silverado EV starts at. Great performance and features are exciting; getting them while spending a lot less, however, is incredible.
Experience the Power of the F-150 Lightning
No matter what you’re looking for in your next truck, Ford has you covered with a selection of options that no one else can match. You’ve got the F-150 Lightning and its remarkable all-electric performance, plus the conventional F-150, more-powerful F-Series Super Duty models, the midsize Ranger, and even a gorgeous compact pickup in the Ford Maverick.
