Why the 2024 Ford Bronco Excels Against Its Competitor, the Toyota Land Cruiser
You want to roar down New York’s roads in the best SUV on the market today. You want to know you can handle the off-road and enjoy the great outdoors with friends and family. You want to know that your SUV can handle plenty of luggage, with a cargo area that’s friendly not just to suitcases but to athletic equipment, too; you should be able to bring all you need if you’re taking a trip down to the beach for the weekend. In short, you’re looking for an SUV that’s adaptable, affordable, and expands what you can do on the road. There’s no question that you need the 2024 Ford Bronco. Friends and family will be impressed, perhaps even a little envious, of how impressive your new ride is.
You don’t have to take just our word for the Bronco’s excellence, though. Today, we want to compare the Bronco to one of its competitors so that you have a clearer vision of why it’s so successful. We’re going to look at the 2024 Ford Bronco vs the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, and you’ll soon see how the Bronco beats out even one of its most esteemed rivals. While the Land Cruiser is by no means a bad vehicle, it doesn’t reach the heights of the Bronco nor is it as affordable.
Starting Price
Performance numbers, interior comfort, and infotainment are all key qualities you have to consider when purchasing a new SUV. However, we also know that for many drivers, the starting price is a key factor. That’s understandable: everyone has their budget. The 2024 Ford Bronco starts with a price far lower than the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser’s. An entry-level Bronco will cost you $39,630, while the Land Cruiser begins at a whopping $55,950.[a] Even if the Bronco’s performance numbers or cargo space were lower than the Land Cruiser’s, and neither are, the Bronco would still be the better buy at this price difference. Since the Bronco does outperform the Land Cruiser in many ways, when it comes to price, it’s a no-brainer that the Bronco wins.
Exterior Style
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yes, but the exterior style of the 2024 Ford Bronco is of special note. With its circular headlights and thin grille, it is designed as a throwback look to the era of more muscular cars. Yet, at the same time, its sleek front nicely contrasts with its square back, giving it enough of a modern flavor that the throwback look remains cool and never outdated.
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has a far more boxier look to it. While some may like it, it’s not a design that will catch as many eyes as the Bronco’s. The Land Cruiser’s shape gives it a heavier curb weight, which a few drivers might prefer, yet the extra weight does not translate to more cargo room and might make it a more laborious drive than the Ford SUV. So, in terms of style and function, we think the exterior design of the Bronco comes out well ahead of the Land Cruiser’s.
Performance Quality
Let’s talk numbers! Every automobile enthusiast knows that performance stats are where the real fun begins when it comes to choosing a new ride. Horsepower and torque ratings are key to knowing your SUV’s acceleration, handling at high speeds, and performance off the road. The higher these stats, the easier acceleration will be and the gentler the voyage, even when you’re blasting down the highway. In short, your engine feels more reliable when its stats are impressive. It’s fun to brag about great performance numbers, but it’s worth noting how much easier they make your time behind the wheel. An engine you have faith in allows you to tackle rough terrain and bad weather with peace of mind.
The Ford Bronco comes with two main engine options. The standard engine option is a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that cranks out 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. However, if you’re looking for some more power, the Bronco can be upgraded to a 2.7L EcoBoost engine that produces 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. A quick test drive can answer which engine you prefer. There is one more engine option, but it is only available on the Raptor trim of the Bronco: a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine that garners 418 hp and 440 lb-ft torque. It’s these engines that allow the Bronco to tackle the off-road so well, but there’s one more performance advantage that it comes equipped with: G.O.A.T. modes.
Goes Over Any Type of Terrain (G.O.A.T.) is a system that changes the driving mode of the Bronco so it’s driving in a fashion that matches the terrain. It comes with modes such as Mud/Ruts, Sand/Snow (useful for Albany’s winters!), Slippery, and more. Your recreation possibilities are going to skyrocket, and even if you keep it local, you’ll find yourself loving how the weather doesn’t put a damper on your day. And if you need your SUV for work, even the most remote job site won’t be a problem for you.
So, how does the Toyota Land Cruiser compete? It puts in a solid effort with its hybrid powertrain: a 2.4L i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine that produces 326 hp and 465 torque. We would never deny that this is a solid engine that can let you easily manage the roads and the off-roads. However, it’s also the only engine option for the Land Cruiser. Unlike the Bronco, you don’t have any choice but to go with this. Combine that with the Bronco’s lower starting point and the fact that the Bronco allows you to choose your engine and that the engines come with similar performance numbers; well, there’s really no competition, is there? The Bronco dominates.
Cargo Space
When you purchase a new SUV, you deserve plenty of cargo space. We’d argue that’s one of the main attractions of an SUV, in fact. You now have room for luggage when you and the family are taking vacations, and you have room for equipment when it’s just you, and you’re placing the rear seats down.
The Bronco offers up to 36 cu.ft. of cargo room behind its rear row of seats and up to 83 cu.ft. of space when the back row is reclined (there are some volume differences depending on whether you go with the two-door or four-door Bronco option; the latter always offers more space). These volumes will give you the room you need to transport what you need to have a fun adventure or what you need to be effective at work.
The Toyota Land Cruiser also offers plenty of cargo room, although it does not allow you to choose between two-door and four-door body structures. This SUV allows for 38 cu.ft. of space behind the rear row of seats and 82 cu.ft. behind the front row. These volumes are great, but they’re also about the same as the far less expensive and far more adjustable 2024 Ford Bronco. Once more, the Bronco has the advantage.
