Whether you have always been a Bronco fan (one of the many of us who had been waiting for its return for a long time) or this is your first time checking out what this Ford SUV has to offer, you are in for a treat. First introduced in the mid-1960s, the original Ford Bronco was designed as a competitor to Jeep and was engineered with fantastic off-road capability. It was a compact model in its early incarnation, but though it proved a very popular option among off-roading fans, there was a shift in the 1970s that saw greater demand for larger models with better on-road performance (the precursor to the surge in SUV popularity in the decades that followed).
The second-generation Bronco launched for the 1978 model year, and it was a full-size SUV designed to compete with the Chevy Blazer and similar models at the time. This was followed by a third generation in 1980 (along with a compact model called the Ford Bronco II in 1982) and a fourth generation for the 1987 model year. When the fifth-generation Bronco rolled out in 1992, it found a lot of competition from other models as the SUV boom kicked off in the auto industry. In response to the changes in the market and driver demand, the Bronco was discontinued following the 1996 model year and replaced by the Ford Expedition, a full-size model with more focus on luxury and ride comfort.
For 25 long years, that was the last we had heard of the Ford Bronco––though many fans eagerly hoped for its return, they would have to wait quite a while. Fortunately, that wait came to an end recently when the Ford Bronco returned for the 2021 model year with a bold new design that harkened to its roots while innovating in numerous ways. Now a midsize SUV, the Bronco is once again the king of the trail and offers off-road capability and features beyond anything else we have seen. With numerous trims, amazing options, and even a compact Bronco Sport model available, there has never been a better time to be a fan of off-road Ford performance.
Since its return, the Ford Bronco has again proven itself to be one of the most reliable, capable, and sophisticated off-road SUVs around. One of our favorite aspects of the Bronco is just how much customization and flexibility there is for getting a configuration that is perfect for you. You can choose a model with either two or four doors, giving you seating for either four or five passengers, plus there are numerous options for upgraded features. All of that is in addition to great features like a removable top, removable doors, and much more that lets you make your Bronco and your driving experience truly your own.
If you are interested in doing some serious off-roading, then you need to check out the Sasquatch Package on the Bronco, which is standard on some trims and available on others. The Sasquatch Package turns the Bronco into an absolute trail beast thanks to 35-inch tires, electronic-locking front and rear axles, and a Ford HOSS 2.0 Suspension with Bilstein Position Sensitive Dampers, letting the Bronco tackle pretty much anything. Best of all, for the 2022 model year, the Sasquatch Package is now available with a manual transmission––something customers specifically asked for, and Ford listened.
The 2022 Ford Bronco also has two new trims available that will take your driving experience to the next level. The new Bronco Everglades features a standard factory-installed Ford Performance by WARN winch kit and an air-intake snorkel––a first for the Bronco. When combined with the Sasquatch Package, this makes for the perfect SUV to splash through the wettest trails. Perhaps most exciting of all, however, is the new Ford Bronco Raptor, which has been designed to conquer the most challenging trails imaginable. It features a HOSS 4.0 Suspension with FOX Live Valve 3.1 Internal Bypass Semi-Active Dampers, 37-inch tires, and a bold design that will dominate every trail.
