History of the Ford Escape

The Ford Escape was released at the turn of the millennium, starting with the 2001 Ford Escape. This model was developed at a time when the term “crossover” vehicle was still relatively new. Drivers flocked to these newly released crossover SUVs because they retained all of the reliability of their larger counterparts, but in a more compact size. In addition to this, the first generation of the Escape was powerful for its time with a powerful engine that provided enough horsepower and torque output to compete with its rivals of the time. Keeping up with its SUV roots, the first generation Escape offered a vastly spacious interior with excellent cargo space.

During the first generation of Escape vehicles, Ford paid close attention to market trends in an attempt to reach more drivers. This experimentation ultimately led to the creation of the Ford Escape Hybrid, only several years after the release of the original model. The Escape Hybrid entered the market at just the right time, giving Ford a competitive edge over its competition.

It wasn’t until a few years after the release of the Escape Hybrid that the Escape would undergo its first major redesign in 2008. This generation would be followed by another redesign in 2012. It was at this time that Ford stopped releasing a hybrid version of this beloved SUV. While this had come as a surprise or an upset to loyal Escape fans, this allowed Ford to focus primarily on the Escape itself before the Hybrid lineup returned for the 2020 model year.

Unlike the second-generation Escape, this new third-generation would usher in a host of newer and more powerful powertrains. Both the hybrid and EV models were toted amongst drivers for their impressive fuel-efficiency. By this point, the lineup had received a host of enhancements, including various enhanced safety features and tech-centric interior features such as infotainment centers. Additions such as these continued the trend of relevancy for the lineup.

Why We Love the Escape

Admiration for the Ford Escape goes well beyond the veil of the consumer, as critics, and even ourselves, call its praises. Models such as the Escape haven’t earned a reputation overnight, but rather, decades of innovation and several advancements to the Escape have helped it evolve overtime, as well as its fans. We admire and recommend the Ford Escape for a few reasons, but most notably, it’s the experience as a whole that will keep you driving. From master-like craftsmanship behind its Ford branding to a safe and reliable driving experience, the Escape is a vehicle with plenty of capabilities.

Amongst the positive reception the Escape has received over the years, several organizations have granted the lineup with various awards as well. For example, the 2020 Ford Escape was awarded a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). That same year, the 2020 Escape would earn an overall safety rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In addition to this, it would also receive a five-star rating for the Front Driver Side, Front Passenger Side, and overall Front Star rating. This was after the Escape had earned a five-star overall safety rating for several years prior starting with the 2017 model.

With these awards under the lineup’s belt, safety and reliability are some of the most notable ways the Escape separates itself from the competition. With excellent crash protection and the addition of Ford Co-Pilot360, the Escape is one of the safest SUVs that you can purchase. Thanks to these additions, the Ford Escape manages to offer plenty of ways to keep both you and your passengers safe.

Automatic Emergency Braking will help the driver apply pressure to the brakes to avoid any potential collisions, while Pre-Collision Assist is essentially an alert system that’s designed to warn the driver of impacts before they occur, with the idea of giving the driver a moment of awareness to apply the brakes. These additions to the model would help to make everyday travel a much safer experience, and with the help of features such as a rear-view camera and Active Park Assist 2.0, parallel parking was made easier as well.

Another highly noteworthy feature of the Escape that makes it a must-have vehicle is the spacious interior it houses in its compact design. With available power-adjustable seating for both you and your front-seat passenger, along with available leather seating, the interior is not just spacious but elegant too. As a compact SUV, the Escape seats five passengers and offers ample space as well.
