The F-150 Is a Great Vehicle to Get

Depending on how you view the beginning of the F-150 truck, it could go back to the first year of the F-Series in 1948 or with the official start of the F-150 designation in 1975. Either way, the F-150 ties deeply to American history and was the highest-selling truck in the US for over 40 years. Ford recently updated to its latest generation in 2021, refreshing almost everything about its best-selling vehicle.

Stepping back two generations, the F-150 of 2011 shared the three-bar grille of the Super Duty models and saw the introduction of the twin-turbo EcoBoost engine. Powered steering and an automatic six-speed transmission were also new additions, and the 2015 model redesign of the next generation, the F-150, saw one significant change to make it both lighter and stronger: an aluminum body. Several engine options were available, and select engines were available with a ten-speed transmission in 2017. In 2018 models, the PowerStroke diesel engine began its availability in the F-150 lineup.

For 2015, Ford was the first to offer adaptive cruise control in a pickup, along with other available driver-assist safety features. In 2016, the Sync 3 updated infotainment system debuted in the F-150, along with the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature. The return of the Raptor gave off-roaders reason to celebrate in 2017, and then a refresh year in 2018 updated exterior features like the grille and headlights. Models in 2019 saw more engine options, and then 2020 brought the 10-speed transmission to all engines.

The Fourteenth-Generation F-150

The latest version of the F-150 was unveiled for the 2021 model year, and these modern vehicles make up the bulk of our CPO F-150 inventory. The fourteenth generation of America’s favorite truck brought tons of improvements to the table, including everything from new powertrain options, upgraded performance, and cutting-edge technology. Buying one of these mighty trucks CPO is a great way to enjoy all the latest features Ford has to offer at a more affordable price, making your life on the road easier and more enjoyable without breaking the bank.

On the outside, the fourteenth-generation F-150 maintained the rugged good looks of the thirteenth generation, giving New York drivers the iconic shape that they have come to love. However, that familiar face hides a number of new features designed to optimize your driving experience. For instance, the available Onboard Scales and Smart Hitch will weigh your cargo as you load your truck or trailer, alerting you when you are approaching the payload limit. The ProPower Onboard built-in generator also unlocks a new level of utility for trucks, providing up to 7.2 kW of on-demand electrical power, including a 240V NEMA outlet.

Inside, the fourteenth generation of the F-150 saw a major makeover with a bevy of new tech features. An 8-inch touchscreen became a standard feature on all trims, and a massive 12-inch touchscreen became optional. No matter which size touchscreen you get in your CPO F-150, you will be treated to the cutting-edge SYNC 4 system. One of the best features of SYNC 4 is that it includes over-the-air updates, so even if your CPO model is a few years old, it will still be running the latest software from Ford. However, the most unique feature of the 2021 and later F-150s is the available BlueCruise hands-free driving technology, which is guaranteed to transform your driving experience.

There are a variety of engine options available for the fourteenth-generation F-150, including a rugged 5.0L V8, two different EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engines, and the revolutionary Power Boost hybrid. Not only does the Power Boost get a remarkable 23 MPG combined, but it provides an incredible 570 pound-feet of torque, proving you can have both power and efficiency. This collection of powerful engines, combined with the F-150’s lightweight yet rugged military-grade aluminum body, gives the truck its best-in-class payload and towing ratings. No matter which engine you choose for your CPO F-150, you are getting a truck that is truly Built Ford Tough.

F-150 Off-Road Models

An F-150 is a great choice if you are looking for a rugged vehicle to take with you on your adventures through the backroads of New York. However, there are some versions of the F-150 that are even more capable of taking on any terrain. If basic 4x4 isn’t enough, look no further than a CPO F-150 equipped with the FX4 Package. Only available on 4x4 models, this package adds a locking rear axle, off-road-tuned suspension, skid plates, and additional tools designed to maximize your experience on the trail. However, for hard-core off-roaders, Ford has two more trail-ready F-150 models that are of incredible value if you find one CPO.

The F-150 Tremor was introduced for 2021 and is the dedicated off-road version of the F-150. This model picks up where the FX4 Package leaves off, adding even more capability for when you have to travel up a logging road in mud season or cut cross-country to get to a job site. The Tremor’s upgraded suspension improves ground clearance and articulation, while 33-inch wheels help the truck climb over any obstacle. The rear locking differential from the FX4 Package is paired with an available front Torsen differential for added traction in any situation, and a torque-on-demand transfer case engages automatically when 4x4 is needed.

At the pinnacle of off-road performance stands the F-150 Raptor, the original performance truck. While it may be an F-150, the Raptor was designed from the ground up for the ultimate in off-road capability and is powered by a special High-Output 3.5L turbocharged engine with 450 horsepower. CPO buyers should look for the third-generation Raptor, which debuted in 2021 and boasts a unique coil-spring rear suspension for improved high-speed handling as well as optional 37-inch wheels, the largest of any production truck. The third-generation Raptor also includes all the tech upgrades found in the fourteenth-generation F-150, making it a top option for Ford enthusiasts.

The F-150 Lightning

Over its half-century run, the F-150 has offered an incredible variety of gas and diesel engines options. The 2021 model even introduced the industry’s first full-hybrid truck, with the incredible Power Boost turbocharged V6 powertrain. However, Ford was still not content and broke new ground in 2022 with the introduction of the all-electric F-150 Lightning. Unlike other electric trucks from competitors like Chevy and Tesla, the F-150 Lightning uses the proven body-on-frame platform and rugged construction that truck lovers are familiar with; the only difference from the standard F-150 is that the Lightning uses electric motors rather than a gasoline or diesel engine.

While the Lightning is a new addition to the Ford lineup, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great option for CPO truck shoppers. This high-value truck will not only save you money upfront if you buy it CPO, but its efficient electric powertrain will save you even more money in the long run as you will never again need to pay for gas. Equipped with standard 4x4, the Lightning offers the sort of incredible acceleration that is only possible with electric motors, going from 0-60 in under 5 seconds. And with 775 pound-feet of torque and a 10,000-pound max towing capacity, this electric truck works just as hard as any other vehicle that wears the F-150 name.

Charging the F-150 Lightning is easy, and there are a variety of options available. While the truck can be charged from any household power outlet, installing an affordable 240V home charging station will allow you to fully charge your truck overnight and wake up to a full battery every morning. If you run low on power while out on the road, a public DC Fast Charging station will be able to charge the truck from 15% to 80% in less than 45 minutes. But with 300 miles of range from any F-150 Lightning equipped with the extended range battery pack, running low on charge won’t happen often.

Gold Certified

Buyers who prefer to purchase newer Ford brand certified pre-owned vehicles might want to look for a vehicle that is Gold Certified. Only Ford models can be certified, and they must be less than six years old with fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer. Vehicles that qualify this initial assessment must then pass a strict 172-point inspection bumper to bumper, including a VIN history, completing service recall repairs if needed, and updating maintenance servicing and emissions standards where necessary.

Once a vehicle passes the inspection and has any repairs and detailed reconditioning performed, buyers can search for a Ford Gold Certified vehicle. Every Gold Certified Ford CPO is backed by the manufacturer warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles bumper-to-bumper, a seven-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and complimentary 24/7 roadside assistance for seven years or 100,000 miles.

Purchasing a Gold Certified CPO includes a free CARFAX report of the vehicle history, and buyers earn 22,000 points in Blue Advantage rewards which can be used toward the first two maintenance visits or can be flexible to spend as you like through your FordPass app. Benefit from the nationwide network of participating dealerships that allow Gold Certified buyers to earn points toward Blue Advantage rewards across the country and to travel with peace of mind knowing your Ford can be serviced anywhere you go. All Ford CPO vehicles are eligible for at-home test drives and home delivery.

Blue Certified

Vehicles included in the Ford Blue Certified program can be any make or model up to ten years of age with less than 120,000 miles on the odometer. Each vehicle that meets this initial requirement must pass a 139-point inspection which includes running a VIN history and updating service recalls. Comprehensive limited coverage backed by Ford guarantees 90 days or 4,000 miles and includes 24/7 roadside assistance.

Buyers interested in Blue Certified CPO vehicles can search through the Ford Blue Advantage online shopping network to link with nearby participating dealerships. Purchasing a Blue Certified vehicle will include a free CARFAX report and 11,000 FordPass rewards points that can be used toward the first maintenance visit or can be put toward other eligible FordPass purchases. Like the Gold Certified vehicles, interested buyers can request Blue Certified CPOs for at-home test drives and home delivery if desired.
