The History of Ford
The history of Ford is actually quite fascinating. The very first vehicle made by Henry Ford was powered by 4 horsepower, which was absolutely unheard of at that time. This vehicle could only go forwards, and there was no option for reverse, but people clamored to ride in the new automobile. The company had spent nearly every penny of the initial $28,000 investment by July of 1903, so when Ford had turned a $37,000 profit within just 3 short months, they knew they were onto something big.
By the time Ford retired the Model T in 1927, it had sold more than 15 million vehicles, thus solidifying its place in history as one of the most popular vehicles of all time. In the early days of automobiles, other manufacturers tried to provide consumers with fancy and luxurious features, whereas Ford preferred to produce vehicles that were both reliable and easy to maintain. This innovation mentality is a big part of why Ford has made such a big impact on the automobile industry. Ford also revolutionized the automobile industry by introducing the assembly line that took the production time for the Model T down to just 1.5 hours from the original 12+ hours. Car manufacturing has never been the same since.
Should You Buy a New, Used, or CPO Ford?
So now we are faced with the age-old questions. Should you buy a new Ford, a used Ford, or a certified pre-owned (CPO) Ford? The answer to this question depends on your own unique needs. For example, if you are interested in having the latest and greatest of everything and being able to drive a vehicle that sports the most modern advances, then you are definitely going to want to go with a new Ford. Every year Ford vehicles introduce bigger and greater features and technologies, including safety, entertainment, and convenience options. If you want to take advantage of these features, you won’t regret going with a new vehicle.
On the other hand, if you want to save a little bit of money on the up-front costs, it might be worth considering a used or certified pre-owned vehicle. It’s common knowledge that vehicles drop in value by thousands of dollars just by driving off the original lot, so you’re in for a lot of savings if you are willing to buy an older model. Plus, you can still often find a lot of the same technical advancements or luxury features you may desire.
While not all used vehicles are certified pre-owned, all certified pre-owned vehicles are used. So what’s the difference? The difference is in the guarantee. All certified pre-owned vehicles have been thoroughly vetted by the dealer to be deemed near factory quality and are usually supported by a warranty. These vehicles, though they cost slightly more than a traditional used vehicle, come with the peace of mind of a thorough check for issues and a warranty to guarantee that the vehicle will last.
The least expensive of all the options are traditional used vehicles. A used Ford does not come with any kind of extra inspections and service, so you will score the biggest up-front savings by buying a used Ford. Plus, just because they aren't put through a multi-point inspection to meet factory standards, they are still inspected for general quality and are likely to last you a while purely because they are reliable Ford models.
As you can see, new Fords, used Fords, and certified pre-owned Fords are all great choices for different people. Each option is perfect for specific lifestyles and situations, and there are plenty of options out there in all three of these categories, so you can find a model that you will love. However, if you still need help determining which type of Ford is best for you, talk to our team today to discuss all of your options.
