Trucks of Every Size for Every Imaginable Job

The term "pickup" applies to so many different sizes and styles of trucks these days. Pickups can be midsize models outfitted with fuel-efficient motors and two-wheel drive powertrains. They can also have massive diesel power plants and offer towing capacities that top the 35,000 lb mark. In between are dozens of other configurations tailor-made for specific lifestyles and jobs.

Midsize pickups like the popular Ford Ranger offer buyers an alternative to heavier and larger full-size options. Their smaller dimensions and lighter weight mean terrific fuel efficiency and easier maneuvering around congested urban areas. But just because they’re smaller doesn’t mean they’re not capable: these trucks can go off-road and haul trailers almost as well as their larger counterparts.

Sometimes, a bigger rig is called for, which is where a half-ton pickup like the Ford F-150 comes in. As America’s best-selling vehicle for over four decades, the F-150 represents the best the full-size category has to offer. Buyers traditionally choose full-size pickups for extra towing capability, but a new crop of buyers has recently joined the growing segment of pickup truck owners: families. Sick of the SUV, families choose crew cab pickups for their spacious interiors and the utility only a truck bed can offer.

Among the largest pickup trucks on the road are the massive three-quarter-ton and one-ton heavy-duty trucks. Within the Ford lineup, these trucks reside in the Super Duty family, and they’re reserved for the toughest jobs. These models are capable of towing gooseneck trailers and hauling thousands of pounds of payload. Because new heavy-duty pickups can be pricy, they’re especially sought after on the used truck market.

Some of the Popular Trucks We Carry

Here at DePaula Ford, our used lot is loaded with a variety of pickups in just about every size, brand, and color. Whether you want a fully loaded Ram 1500 or you’ve decided a pre-owned Toyota Tacoma is what you need to fuel your weekend off-roading adventures, our selection includes plenty of the most popular trucks in everything from base trims to luxury versions.

If you’re looking for a midsize truck, we’ll always suggest a Ford Ranger, but you might also consider the popular Chevy Colorado. Other great options included the rugged Jeep Gladiator and the reliable Honda Ridgeline. Whichever midsize truck you choose, our expansive inventory allows you the freedom to consider several options right down to powertrain and exterior color. For instance, off-roaders will love the Colorado ZR2 or a Ranger equipped with the Tremor Off-Road Package.

The most popular pickup segment by far is the half-ton category. This extremely competitive segment is dominated by the Ford F-150, but other entrants like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 keep it interesting. Your options include basic work trucks with affordable price tags or ultra high-end trims like the GMC Denali that feature leather seating and other luxury finishes. You’ll also find plenty of mid-range trims at surprisingly affordable prices.

Heavy-duty pickups include the Ford Super Duty, the Chevy Silverado HD, the GMC Sierra HD, and the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 models. One less conventional option is the Nissan Titan XD, a sort of in-between offering that has some elements of a heavy-duty pickup but lacks the might of the American manufacturers’ rigs. Whatever you’re seeking, you’ll find plenty of used trucks here at DePaula Ford.

Find Used Diesel Trucks at DePaula Ford

Diesel trucks have some advantages over models with conventional gas engines. Diesel burns clean and cool, using compression within the cylinder head to ignite the fuel instead of the spark plugs in gasoline engines. This reduces the wear and tear on the working parts of the diesel truck’s powertrain. As a result, diesel engines tend to outlast gasoline engines.

Diesel trucks also are more energy efficient, delivering better overall fuel economy. Further, diesel engines produce more torque at lower speeds than similarly sized gas engines. As a result, many drivers see an advantage in choosing a used diesel truck. At DePaula Ford, we have an expansive inventory of these models, allowing you to find one at a very reasonable price.

Once upon a time, you would have to opt for a heavy-duty truck if your heart was set on a diesel engine. Models like the Ford Super Duty with its Power Stroke turbo-diesel, Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD with their Duramax engines, and Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 with their Cummins power plants monopolized the market for diesel trucks. However, automakers recently began offering turbo-diesel engine options for their smaller models.

The Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 are all available with diesel engines, allowing used truck buyers to enjoy the benefits and capabilities of a diesel pickup in a smaller model. Chevy and GMC even offered a turbo-diesel engine for their midsize Colorado and Canyon pickup trucks, and Jeep followed suit with its adventurous Gladiator. While many of these options were only available for a relatively short time, you can still find used examples of these smaller diesel trucks. With our rotating lineup of used trucks, you can find these and other great models here.

We Have Used Lifted Trucks

Lifted trucks give you additional ground clearance, allowing you to clear obstacles more easily. This comes in handy whether you are off-roading or trying to get through some seasonal snow. Lifting a truck also improves its approach, departure, and breakover angles, which will get you up and over most things in your path safely and effectively.

There are three different types of lifted trucks. The first are models designed that way. Many automakers offer off-road variants of existing models, adding a lift for higher ground clearance. Some of these also feature a wider track and specialized off-road suspension. For example, Ford offers the F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor, as well as the Maverick Tremor and Super Duty Tremor.

In addition to the trucks that come with a lift from the factory, some manufacturers offer factory-approved lift kits that can be installed by a dealership. The final option is an aftermarket lift kit. Factory-lifted trucks and lift kits tend to be the best, and you should always have a qualified mechanic inspect any used truck with an aftermarket lift kit to ensure that it was installed properly without damaging the truck’s frame or suspension.

We feature many used lifted trucks. This includes specialized models like the Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram 1500 TRX, GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, and Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2. These models have high-quality factory lifts and are ready to roll right off our used lot. In addition, our sales team will let you know if the lift kit on the used truck you are looking to buy came from the factory or was an aftermarket addition.

Discover Used Electric Trucks

Trucks with electric motors were once the stuff of science fiction. The thought of a powerful pickup truck running on electricity without the need for gasoline or diesel fuel sounds like a fantastic idea. However, electric trucks are now a reality. Large automakers like Ford and Chevy have now introduced fully electric models like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevy Silverado EV.

These electric trucks deliver towing and hauling capabilities that match up with other full-size models while having better acceleration as a result of their instant torque. These models also have zero emissions, use no gasoline, and are starting to become available on the used truck market. In addition to the big names of the truck world, small automakers like Tesla and Rivian also offer electric trucks with cutting-edge technology and high-end comfort and convenience features. With their futuristic styling, the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T have pioneered the luxury EV truck market.

We work hard to provide our customers with quality used electric trucks, which is why we’ve become known as the Capital Region’s EV Headquarters. In addition to EV models, there are trucks like the Maverick and F-150 PowerBoost that come with a full-hybrid powertrain. While they still have a gasoline engine in addition to their electric motors, these models provide solid towing and hauling capabilities with outstanding fuel economy. When you come to our dealership, we will work hard to help you find the used electric or hybrid truck that works best for you.

Maintenance Tips for Used Trucks

Used trucks, like all vehicles, need to undergo routine maintenance. This includes such things as rotating the tires, changing the oil and oil filter, replacing the cabin air filter, and maintaining the proper levels of coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid. If you are handy and have the right set of tools, you can do a great deal of this yourself. However, if you want to make sure it is done right, bring it here. At DePaula Ford, we feature a team of trained technicians who can help keep your used truck in proper working order.

You should also make sure to regularly inspect certain parts of the truck. If you have been hauling heavy loads or towing large trailers, you could be putting your truck’s suspension to the test. You should have the dampers, springs, and other parts of the suspension checked out each time you come in for an oil change. Also, the spark plugs, battery, exhaust, and brakes should be checked out as well. If you have a used diesel truck, the diesel exhaust fluid, fuel filter, and other emissions equipment must be routinely inspected.

Used Truck Financing FAQs

We get a lot of questions from our customers about financing. This is understandable, as most folks need a loan to purchase their next used truck. Here are some common questions we receive and the answers you need to make an educated decision about financing your next truck.

What does financing involve?

Some people are able to pay the full purchase price of their next vehicle in cash at the time of purchase. However, most people need some form of financing. If you are buying a new truck, you can either lease it for a set number of months or take out a loan to pay for it. With used trucks, your best bet is a loan. This can be paid off over a number of months.

What is a down payment?

A down payment is the amount you put down in cash at the time of purchase, including the trade-in value of your existing vehicle. The larger your down payment, the smaller the principal will be on your auto loan. This, in turn, reduces your monthly payment.

What is the difference between principal and interest?

The principal is the remaining price of the vehicle plus any taxes or fees after deducting your down payment. Interest is calculated monthly based on how much of the principal has yet to be paid and your loan's annual percentage rate (APR).

How are my monthly payments determined?

Monthly payments take into account the principal, your interest rate, and the length of your loan. The longer the loan, the lower your monthly payment because the total you are paying back is divided across more months.

How much can I borrow?

Our website features a loan pre-approval application. This will let you know if you qualify for credit and how much you can borrow. We also offer a car payment calculator tool and a vehicle trade-in estimator. These online financing tools can help you know your budget before arriving at our showroom.

How is my interest rate determined?

Lenders will look at your credit report to determine your interest rate. People with higher credit ratings will usually get lower interest rates and better financing terms since lenders consider them a lower risk.

I have bad credit now. What can I do if my credit rating improves?

If you see your credit rating has gone up after purchasing a truck, you can meet with our finance team to explore refinancing your vehicle. This entails buying out your old loan with a new one that provides better terms, such as a lower interest rate. The good news is that you will improve your credit rating by making your loan payments on time. In fact, paying off a car loan is one of the best ways to improve bad credit.
