Ford clearly understands this because they offer four different trims for the Mustang Mache-E compared to just three trim levels for the Equinox EV—that might not be a huge difference, but it does matter. This is notable for two main reasons: first, it gives you greater freedom, and second, you can get far superior performance from Ford than Chevy offers. The 85 kWh battery on the Equinox EV is fine and when paired with two motors, it delivers 300 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque. The standard 73 kWh battery for the Ford Mustang Mach-E provides 325 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque when paired with a dual-motor setup. Going up to the available 88 kWh or 91 kWh batteries for the Mustang Mach-E takes performance to another level entirely: up to 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque! That is power and muscle that the Equinox EV cannot compete with, providing you with a compact SUV that you will love driving each day.

Trims and Features
One of the things we love to see in a vehicle is a large number of options for drivers to choose from; this makes it easier for us to help our customers find whatever they are looking for. Beyond our own reasons, it also means you have much more freedom as you explore different models and available features, letting you find the things that are most important to you. Life would be simple if there was a single vehicle that was perfect for every driver out there, but that is not the case. Ford gives you lots of options for the Mustang Mach-E, more than Chevy offers with the Equinox EV, giving you greater freedom to find what you want.
Looking at the Equinox EV, Chevy offers three different trim levels for it, though two can be seen as essentially variations of a single model. The LT1 is the starting trim, and it comes with 19-inch wheels, a manual rear liftgate, and a six-speaker sound system. Chevy also offers an LT2 model for the Equinox EV, which is an upgraded version of the LT1 that includes a power liftgate, ambient interior lighting, and a wireless charging pad inside. The RS trim is a more satisfying second option that includes numerous upgrades like 21-inch wheels and an eight-way power driver’s seat—though it still has the standard six-speaker sound system.
Ford gives you four different trim levels to choose from, creating greater variety and more options to get everything you want in your vehicle. The Select model has starting features, including a manual liftgate, a six-speaker sound system, and a wireless charging pad—that’s right, wireless charging is standard for the Mustang Mach-E. Moving to the Premium trim gets you numerous upgrades, including a 10-way power driver’s seat, an eight-way power front-passenger seat, and a 10-speaker B&O sound system, far surpassing the RS trim. Going up to the GT and Rally trims, you not only get gorgeous interior features like Ford Performance Activex trimmed seating, but incredible power and performance.
Battery Options
We will get into the details of performance and power for these two vehicles in a moment, but first, we need to briefly look at the number of options you get for batteries and motors. Both the battery and the motors are very important when it comes to EVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Chevy Equinox EV. These features determine the kind of performance you get with your vehicle, along with maximum range and other specs. Your overall driving experience can vary significantly based on how the motors on a BEV are set up, which is why they are so important.
The Equinox EV has fine options, but they are sorely lacking in how much freedom they give you to get the kind of performance you want. There is a single battery available for the Equinox EV: an 85 kWh power source; we know Chevy has more available because you can find greater power on other models from GM, but they chose to keep things limited with the Equinox EV. Both a single motor and a pair of motors are available for this SUV, although the front-wheel drive (FWD) provided by the single-motor setup is not as impressive as we would like.
Ford gives you far greater freedom to get the setup and performance you want. The standard 73 kWh battery on the Mustang Mach-E is a great start, and it is offered with either single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) or a dual-motor setup. We prefer the feel of RWD on this model compared to the FWD that Chevy offers and it pairs beautifully with how much power you get from Ford. The available 88 kWh battery enhances performance for the Mustang Mach-E, with both single- and dual-motor setups available, while the 91 kWh battery is offered with a dual-motor configuration for incredible performance. This is far more options and greater power than Chevy offers, resulting in more freedom and an enhanced driving experience.
Power and Performance
Having lots of battery and motor setup options is great, but it is more important that those options also give you a lot of power to enjoy while driving. Looking at the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV, its 85 kWh battery and standard single-motor configuration provide 220 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. That is fine, especially for a compact SUV, but it does not fully capture the kind of power that we have come to expect with EVs. A dual-motor setup with the Equinox EV is better, delivering 300 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque, creating a driving experience that is quite enjoyable. Still, considering this is the best that Chevy offers with this vehicle, we would like to see greater performance and more power.
Ford comes through with more power not only because you have more options available with the Mustang Mach-E but also because they have engineered their SUV to simply go further. With its standard 73 kWh battery, the single-motor Mustang Mach-E provides you with 264 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. Just looking at starting options, you can already see this is far greater power than Chevy offers—it is more horsepower even than a dual-motor Equinox EV. The dual-motor Mustang Mach-E, with its standard battery, provides 325 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, far surpassing the performance that Chevy offers.
And yet, this is just the beginning. With the available 88 kWh battery, the Mustang Mach-E provides 272 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque with a single motor, or you get 370 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque if you choose a dual-motor setup. Taking things to the extreme, the available 91 kWh battery with its dual-motor configuration provides 480 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque, leaving the Equinox EV in its zero-emission dust. And if you choose the available Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Upgrade (which is included in the Rally model), then you get 700 lb-ft of torque, letting this compact SUV go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Gives You More to Enjoy
As you can see, the Chevy Equinox EV is a fine compact EV SUV that brings a lot to the road, especially for drivers who want to keep things simple. It just cannot keep up with the Mustang Mach-E, not only literally due to the far greater performance that Ford’s SUV provides but also in terms of your overall options. You have more trim levels to choose from, more combinations of batteries and motors, and even greater interior cargo space with the Mustang Mach-E compared to the Equinox EV. In other words: Ford gives you more.
