There is also a 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine with an incredible 500 lb-ft of torque, which is one of our favorites. If you want something truly special, however, then there is an available 3.5L PowerBoost turbocharged V6 hybrid engine that delivers 420 hp and 578 lb-ft of torque. You can see that this matches the best horsepower offered by GMC while giving you far greater torque than any engine for the Sierra 1500, even the diesel. This combination is truly remarkable, and it is a big part of why the F-150 is so highly regarded.

The 2026 Ford F-150 can handle up to 13,500 lbs of towing when properly equipped, while the GMC Sierra 1500 has up to 13,300 lbs of maximum towing available. Although Ford’s truck clearly comes out on top, things seem pretty similar. The problem, however, is that the Sierra 1500 only gets that level of towing with its available diesel engine; max gas towing for GMC’s truck tops out at 13,100 lbs. That is a bigger difference that can really matter if you need to push the limits of what your truck can do without damaging it.
What’s more, when looking at the payload numbers, we find some similar differences that actually become more distinct. The Ford F-150 can handle up to 2,440 lbs of payload when properly equipped, while the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 tops out at 2,240 lbs. More noteworthy, however, is that the Sierra 1500 can only manage that kind of weight with its standard engine, which has just 9,500 lbs of maximum towing. The diesel engine with greater towing capacity only has a maximum payload of 1,890 lbs. With the Ford F-150, the available 3.5L V6 engine offers both 13,500 lbs of maximum towing and 2,440 lbs of max payload—so you can get the most done with a single engine.
Interior Features and Trim Levels
Although impressive performance and big capabilities are important when shopping for a truck, they are not the only things that matter. Inside the Pro trim, however, we find some features that are rather lacking, such as a seven-inch infotainment display and a 3.5-inch monochromatic Driver Information Center screen, both of which are not as easy to read as we would like. Vinyl seating is standard in the Sierra 1500 Pro, which feels like what we would see in a truck made a couple of decades ago, along with a basic steering wheel. GMC has plenty of other trims available, but we expect more from the starting features.
With the 2026 F-150, Ford offers the XL model as its starting point, which provides a lot more great features even before looking at available options. You get an impressive 12-inch capacitive touchscreen display for the Ford SYNC 4 infotainment system, which looks fantastic and is easy to view at a glance and use even while driving. The standard four-inch cluster display works great, although we like the available 12-inch productivity screen even more. You get cloth seating rather than vinyl, standard, which is quite comfortable. Of course, Ford offers plenty of excellent options and upgrades, including gorgeous Multicontour leather seating, a B&O Unleashed sound system, genuine wood interior accents, and much more.
