2019 F-150 Awarded Top Safety Standards
5-Star Overall IIHs Crash Rating
The best-selling truck in the country in also one of the safest.
That’s why the 2019 Ford F-150 earned a “good” rating in all vehicle crash categories, the highest marks among light-duty crew cab pickup trucks.
This is the top safety rating given by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), while other ratings include acceptable, marginal, and poor.
Top-Tier Safety Standards
Among each of the 11 light-duty crew cab pickup trucks measured in small overlap front-crash for both driver and passenger sides, the 2019 Ford F-150 was the only pickup truck to earn top-tier safety ratings.
“F-150’s smart engineering, plus the innovative combination of its high-strength steel frame and high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body continues to demonstrate enduring customer benefits — from repeated class-leading crash test performance to best-in-class towing and payload,” Executive Vice President of Product Development and Purchasing Hau Thai-Tang said in a press release recently.
Over the years since the Ford F-150 made its appearance, the Ford engineering team has reinforced the importance of top-quality safety standards.
A cross-functional group of Ford truck veterans worked to help improve durability, capability, fuel economy, and safety for the F-150. The team created 31 safety-related innovations.
Safety innovations for the 2019 F-150 include structures that manage crash forces, plus joining methods that were tested virtually with computer simulations then retested in Ford’s advanced laboratories.
To surpass safety standards, Ford uses patented extruded aluminum roof crossmember and frame crossmember that work together to improve resilience for the pickup truck in a crash.
In an effort to reduce the weight of the F-150 model, Ford uses nylon hinger pillar reinforcements.
Ford has also implemented specially designed wheel blockers that work to control crash forces while also providing additional safety for the pickup truck while driving on the road.
The top-tier safety award follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) testing which awarded the F-150 crew cab a 5-star overall vehicle score and a 5-star rating for driver and passenger for all crash test methods.
Pickup Truck of the Year Contender
These accolades come as no real surprise as the F-150 was picked as a top contender for 2019 Pickup Truck of the Year from Truck Trend.
Updates made to the latest model helped shine a spotlight on the beloved pickup truck again.
These updates include features like BLIS blind-spot monitoring system, high-output EcoBoost powertrain, and SYNC3 technology.
This superior engineering and standard for producing a high-quality pickup truck make it clear how the Ford F-150 is able to maintain its status as a top contender for its class.
