How Does the 2025 Ram 1500 Stack Up Against America’s Best-Selling Truck, the 2025 Ford F-150?

It must be hard to be the King when others are constantly aiming for your crown. The Ford F-150 has enjoyed being America’s most beloved vehicle for over 50 years—we may never see a reign as impressive as this in the automotive industry if this streak ends (which has no signs of stopping any time soon). Suffice to say, every added year of being the best-seller in America helps Ford push history that much further. Competition is hot per usual this year, with the 2025 Ford F-150 vs 2025 Ram 1500 once again fighting for the top spot. We have plenty to discuss for this year’s competition, so let’s jump into it.

We’re Talking Serious Performance

The 2025 Ford F-150 and 2025 Ram 1500 are both vying for your time because each manufacturer believes it has what it takes to be your trusted brand for life’s most meaningful responsibilities. Both trucks support Class IV tow hitches in their base configurations. However, Ford’s truck has a slight edge—the 2025 F-150’s base engine provides a maximum towing capacity of 8,400 lbs against the base Ram 1500’s 8,110 lbs.

Acceleration is smoother while driving any 2025 F-150 because each engine has a 10-speed automatic transmission attached to it. The 2025 Ram 1500’s engines have an 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a sufficient option on its own, but it has fewer gears than what you get with the 2025 F-150.

The base 2025 Ram 1500 powertrain includes a 3.6L V6 MHEV engine; the 2025 F-150 has a 2.7L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine. The 2025 F-150 outputs 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque in its base configuration against the Ram 1500’s 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. This means the entry-level F-150 has a 49% greater torque output than the base Ram 1500 and is cheaper—the 2025 F-150 has an MSRP of $38,810 against the Ram 1500’s $40,275.^[a]

The 2025 Ram 1500 can be fitted with a turbocharged 3.0L I-6 engine dubbed the “Hurricane.” Regular and high-output variants of this turbocharged engine are available, ultimately creating the trio of powertrains for this year’s Ram truck. The 2025 F-150 has six total powertrains—including the standard one. However, two F-150 powertrains are exclusive to specific trims—the Raptor and Raptor R—and another is an HEV powertrain that you get with an F-150 Hybrid.

Let’s briefly look at the Ram 1500’s “Hurricane” engine. The regular variant creates 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque, and the 2025 Ram 1500’s ultimate maximum towing capacity of 11,550 lbs. The high-output “Hurricane” engine—standard with 4WD—is more off-road focused and increases performance to 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque, but its towing capacity is decreased to 9,920 lbs.

The F-150 engine most comparable to the Ram 1500’s “Hurricane” is the 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine. This EcoBoost engine outputs 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, helping it achieve a maximum towing capacity of 13,500 lbs—better than anything Ram has. It also provides a better payload capacity—2,440 lbs—than what’s possible on the Ram 1500.

We haven’t even mentioned every F-150 powertrain, but there’s one more we’d like to focus on: the 5.2L High Output supercharged V8 engine known as the “Predator.” The Predator is exclusive to the Raptor R trim and makes the Ram 1500’s best effort look tame by comparison. Buying the 2025 F-150 Raptor R nets you a mouth-watering 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque, which is a third more horsepower than the Ram 1500’s high-output turbocharged I-6.

A Closer Look at Truck Bed Sizes

The 2025 F-150 and 2025 Ram 1500 are both respectable full-size pickup trucks that make excellent use of their size to provide proper cargo beds. However, despite the Ram 1500 having one particular edge, the F-150 is the more spacious truck. What do we mean? The 2025 Ram 1500’s ace up its sleeve is its 5.6-ft long bed sporting 53.9 cu.ft. of space. This is one inch longer than the F-150’s smallest bed—5.5 ft long—and has slightly more than its 52.8 cu.ft. of space. Allow us to be the ones to tell you that it’s not worth celebrating a 2% cargo space win when the starting price is 4% higher—especially when that 4% is realistically about a couple thousand dollars.

A 6.4 ft long bed is available for the 2025 Ram 1500. This bed has 61.5 cu.ft. of space—a decent improvement over the shorter option. However, the tables turn once you introduce the 2025 F-150’s 6.5 ft long bed with its 62.3 cu.ft. of space. It’d be hypocritical of us to say that a 1.3% cargo space increase is worth celebrating when we were critical of the Ram 1500’s smaller bed’s 2% increase. What is worth celebrating is the even larger cargo space uplift available with the 2025 F-150’s long bed.

The 2025 F-150’s most spacious bed measures 8 ft long. This bed is enough to provide 77.4 cu.ft. of cargo space, which is 26% more cargo space than what the largest 2025 Ram 1500 bed can hold. These trucks are work machines, so you don’t need us to tell you which truck is better if cargo space is remotely important to you, either professionally or to enjoy your exciting hobbies.

We can’t discuss the 2025 F-150’s truck bed without mentioning a couple of other highlights it has over the Ram 1500. The 2025 F-150 has available Pro Power Onboard—an electric generator built directly into the side of your truck’s bed. You can plug your power tools in or host the ultimate tailgating party by plugging in a television or sound system and travel with the grill, coolers, tarp, and chairs in the bed. You won’t find a built-in generator in the 2025 Ram 1500’s bed.

The 2025 F-150 also has Ford’s Pro Access Tailgate. This tailgate does more than fold out flat. It has a separate door in the middle that you can open by swinging it open horizontally like a regular truck door. This reveals a step you can use to easily climb aboard the truck and slide cargo—like long wooden planks—onto the bed with no trouble. Within the tailgate door is a retractable load stopper to avoid cargo slipping out. There’s also a work surface to keep your electronics and paperwork safe for your food during your lunch break.

The 2025 Ram 1500’s tailgate isn’t helpless by comparison and has some neat features. For example, the 60/40 split doors that open independently are an innovative feature we hope to see carried over to future F-150 trucks. However, we’re still happier with what Ford’s Pro Access Tailgate offers over Ram’s tailgate.

Touchscreen Sizes

We’ve established that the 2025 F-150 has an impressive feature set despite being the cheaper truck. This trend continues with the infotainment centers. The 2025 Ram 1500 has one of three infotainment centers, including 8.4, 12, and 14.5-inch options, with an additional 10.25-inch screen for the passenger. These are great media centers, but you won’t find the 12 or 14.5-inch infotainment centers in the base model. The 2025 F-150, which costs over $1,000 less than the 2025 Ram 1500, has a 12-inch infotainment center. And yes, even for the base model… let’s consider this as we reach our verdict.

And the Winner Is…

What have we learned about the 2025 Ram 1500 and 2025 Ford F-150? We’ve learned that the 2025 Ram 1500 is a great truck that can stand in the big leagues with the 2025 F-150—but not so fast. However, we’ve actually learned that you won’t be treated like a big-league driver until you spend even more money on a premium Ram 1500 model. This is unacceptable in many ways, especially given how the base Ram 1500, which lacks many of the features and other qualities of the base F-150, is already the pricier vehicle. The F-150 wins because it respects your wallet as much as your time.
