Used Ford Trucks: The F-150 Rises to the Top
We know what a hassle it can be to start up a used car search, but we’re here to tell you everything is going to be alright! Specifically, if you’re looking into used Ford trucks, the market has never been better. For over 100 years, Ford has been producing high-quality and affordable vehicles that are known to last. Their trucks have consistently been among the most popular in the nation, and they’re well known around the world. The one on everyone’s mind, though, is the F-150.
Ford’s F-Series models are the best-selling vehicles in the United States, which automatically makes it the best-selling truck as well. But guess what? It’s been that way for over 35 years. And, honestly, it’s not too surprising. Here at Depaula Ford, we know a good vehicle when we see one, and that’s why we back the Ford brand so adamantly. When you’ve been number one for that long, there’s got to be something you’re doing right.
What’s the F-150 All About?
It’s safe to assume you already know all about the F-150, but let’s pretend you don’t for a second and give you an introduction. This is a truck that other brands try to model their trucks after and compete with. It’s the number one truck for a reason, and every other manufacturer that’s not Ford wants a piece of it. Why is that?
Every Ford truck is built with the guarantee that they’ll get the job done. If you’re looking into used Ford trucks, it’s probable that you want a vehicle that has very good work capabilities. This isn’t always the case, and we’ll get to that, but pickups like the F-150 are known to be able to function as excellent work vehicles. This could be hauling wood to the build site, towing equipment to the ranch, and so on — the possibilities are endless when it comes to what an F-150 can do. For example, when properly equipped, some newer model F-150s can tow over 13,000 lbs, and some have payload capacities over 3,000 lbs. Now, if that’s not a vehicle that can put in a day’s worth of work, I’m not sure what is.
But, of course, it’s not all about work. Yes, that’s definitely a lot of supplies or equipment you can throw in the back or on a trailer, but you want to know what else that is? A lot of toys. A used Ford truck like the F-150 will be your best friend when it’s time to head out for a weekend of camping or going on a family vacation. It can tow your boat or trailer and haul your dirt bikes or quad bike. Plus, there’s room enough for the whole family or a group of buddies. Depending on the configuration, an F-150 can have space for up to six passengers. So, grab the spouse and kids, or your buddies, and pack up and go. It really couldn’t be any easier.
It’s convenient, too. As technology has advanced, so has the F-150. We’ve already mentioned there’s ample space for a good group of people, but that’s not enough these days. Features like Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, power inverters, heated & ventilated seats, FordPass Connect with a WiFi Hotspot, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and more can make your ride go from simple transportation to convenient relaxation. I mean, a WiFi Hotspot in your vehicle? What a time to be alive!
If that weren’t enough, the F-150 also comes in a variety of different trim levels, the most common being the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, and Raptor. I’ve listed them in order of increasing price and options, except for the Raptor. The Raptor would normally cost less than a same-year base model Limited or Platinum, but it’s been placed at the end because it’s almost like a different vehicle within the F-150 family.
The F-150 Raptor (not to be confused with the new Ranger Raptor) has been around for about ten years and has gained a lot of fans since its initial release. It’s the definitive off-road pick of the different trim levels because it always comes equipped with above-average standard features that make it off-road ready. This will normally include a more powerful engine (like the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost), Trail Control (a low-traction cruise control system), special shocks, tow hooks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires. Apart from being ready for adventure, the Raptor also has a unique look, showcased by the unique grille with large Ford letters across it.
What’ll it Run Me?
A brand new 2020 F-150 will start from $28,495 (XL) to $67,485 (Limited). A same-year new Raptor would start at $53,205. Already, seeing that they start below $30,000 is a pretty good sign because that means the price will only be lower since you’re looking into pre-owned options.
Take this however you want to, but an F-150 that’s in pretty good shape won’t see a huge drop in depreciation over the years. That means you may not see the price fall as much as you’d want, but it also means there are a couple of big reasons the price isn’t dropping too much. First, the F-Series trucks are in high demand. They’re popular and people like them, so they’re sold all the time. And second, the F-150 retains its value over the years because it’s a good vehicle. It can stand the test of time and continue to put in work another day, for another owner. That’s a very good reason not to have a huge price drop. It means it’s actually a reliable vehicle that people want. It’s not going to fall apart at the first sign of trouble, which is only a benefit for any potential owner.
Over the years, the F-150 has won many awards, and, according to KBB (Kelley Blue Book), the F-150 is the Pickup Truck Best Buy (Full-Size) of the year. This is the sixth year in a row the F-150 has won the award. Not an easy feat when you’re competing against some of the most popular vehicles in the country. But, then again, it’s never easy being number one, is it?
